We did something crazy.... after so many of you reached out regarding purchasing quarters we scheduled more butcher slots! If we initially told you we are sold out until February, here is your chance to get in early. Who is ready to cow-pool?
Order link is in the comments. Keep reading for more information!
Cow-pooling is where you go in with other buyers to purchase a whole cow then have it taken to the butcher shop to be butchered. In this situation we will find the other people to cow-pool with you and we have set up the appointment with the butcher shop and arranged to have it hauled to the butcher shop. We even will communicate your preferences to the butcher and pick up the meat for you.
Please keep in mind that since you are buying the cow, you can’t request 50lbs of NY Strip steaks since a steer simply doesn’t yield 50lbs of NY Strip Steak. The butcher will cut out the steaks, roasts, and other cuts you request then the rest goes into ground beef.
COST- The beef is being sold by the hanging weight ($4.10/lb). Hanging weight is the weight of the animal after it is hanging in the freezer after being slaughtered, skinned, and had the gut fill removed but before the animal is deboned. The average hanging weight is 60% of the live weight.
Customers are responsible to pay their own processing fees in addition to the purchase of the animal. The cost of butchering fees will vary from person to person depending on what types of processing the customer chooses.
The cattle will be processed at Penn Valley Meats in Millersburg, PA. They are a PA inspected facility and USDA inspected. We expect to pick up the meat around 10/5 and you will then have one week to pick it up from our farm so please plan accordingly.
