A small miracle…I left 3 rows of dahlias in the ground (rather than lifting and storing in boxes) last fall, knowing that some growers are able to overwinter them. But then the covers were destroyed by wind and temps got down into the low teens. Oh well, that experiment failed 😞 I thought. But behold, all of them have emerged and are growing so much faster than they would have if they spent the winter in the barn!

Happy Winter Solstice! After the rush of Christmas Markets, we are looking forward to relaxing by the fire with some seed catalogs 🙂.

Most of the plants and bulbs are resting underneath blankets of shredded leaves, though the lilacs have already set buds for next year and our two new hoop houses are full of seedlings. They’ll set down roots over the winter and be ready to POP in March.

Plantapalooza2021 is a wrap! Thanks to Michelle, Elaine and Theresa, we put around 2000 plant babies into the ground and pulled the same number of rocks out the same :)

Look at all these beautiful babies, almost old enough to go to their new homes! We will be closing orders for our Garden-in-Box program next week, so we can start getting the plants ready to go. We will be delivering to the DMV and to Front Royal the weekend of May 1, in addition to pickups at the farm.
