Spurgeon Veggies is a family-owned operation in East Galesburg, Illinois. We produce a wide variety of vegetables and brown eggs, nearly year-round. You can receive fresh from the farm produce every Saturday at the Galesburg Farmer's Market from May through October, or by appointment in East Galesburg.

Started hardening the onions so they will be ready to plant soon. Hardening is a process of gradually getting plants used to the outside temperatures. It takes about a week until they can stay outside all day. Spring is around the corner. I can’t wait!

The concoctions I’ve been making in my kitchen I found in this book, ‘The Regenerative Grower’s Guide to Garden Amendments’, by Nigel Palmer. This book teaches how to make your soil living and thriving. This is the one reference book I don’t want to be without!
Along with planting lots of plants in my basement, I’ve been making concoctions in my kitchen for the garden. This is a quart of eggshells with apple cider vinegar poured over it. The acv leeches out the calcium from the eggshells It looks like it’s boiling. It’s not. This liquid is a concentrate that I use diluted on tomatoes, peppers, eggplant…anything that is prone to blossom end rot. The calcium takes care of that..organically and safely
Because I just love ❤️ to grow things ….I grew some cat grass, which is a mixture of wheat, oats, barley and rye. My cats are loving it💕
Worked in the tunnel today. It was so dry I watered the row with snow for a slow watering. this is preparation for early spring planting

This winter I found this great idea on Facebook and made one. I call it my eagle’s nest composter. It’s made of small locust trees driven into the ground and grape vines woven around the outside.

We planted out a few thousand of our remaining broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and some other miscellaneous transplants today. Some pumpkins, squash, and dry beans went in a few days ago. Our acreage is more or less full at this point!
