A visual of how age can affect egg size. Hatching a chick from the 1 year old hen will result in a larger, likely more robust chick. Waiting until they’re older does give the bird time to mature and potentially lay larger eggs.

I, for one, want to give these tiny, Serama chicks every chance at growing up strong. Hatching strong eggs from a mature hen is a good place to start.
