Laurie, from Thomas Dairy, showed Moe today at the Eastern States Expo, The Big E.

She swept in the ribbons winning Best Udder, Best In Breed Sable, Grand Champion Sable and … Grand Champion!

Way to go Moe! (And Laurie and Jim at Thomas Dairy!)

We are here today 10-5 and tomorrow 10-4 … and of course we brought along some of this years goat kids!

Hand Joe four gallons of goat milk and a bundle of fresh sage from the garden, and a few hours later he’ll have created a beautiful 3-pound Sage Derby cheese. Now it just needs about six months to age to perfection.

All of our animals remain on our farm, long after they’ve retired from milking. When they pass on, they are buried in the back gardens, and a fruiting tree is planted in remembrance. Thelma & Louise’s trees are producing like crazy this year, as is Gemma’s (which has yet to ripen.) One of the perks of farm work - fresh peaches right off the tree!

And look at the wood-stacking Joe did today.

Goats are so weird.
All spring, they’ve been sulking under the overhang, acting personally offended by the “too long” grass in the field.

So today I went out and mowed like usual - except this time I added a couple crop circles, just to give them something to explore.

Ten minutes after letting them back out, they’ve suddenly decided the tall grass is the most delicious thing they’ve ever tasted. Now they won’t leave it.

Same grass. Same goats. Totally different drama.
