When the temps start climbing, you may see the bees hanging out on the front of the hive like this. It’s called bearding—and it’s basically the bee version of standing outside because it’s too hot inside! 🐝☀️

👑 EIGHTEEN queen cells… on ONE frame! 🐝

That’s the bees’ way of saying, “We’re getting ready to swarm!”

When queen cells are charged (filled with royal jelly and a developing larva), the colony has already made the decision to raise new queens. Finding 18 on a single frame is a strong sign that this hive is preparing for a big change.

Beekeeping is a constant reminder that the hive always has a plan—and it’s our job to learn what they’re trying to tell us. Every inspection is another lesson. 🤓

🥵 Ever noticed a big clump of bees hanging out on the outside of the hive during the summer?
Don’t worry—they’re not getting ready to swarm. They’re bearding!

When temperatures get hot, honey bees gather on the outside of the hive to help keep the inside cool. By moving outside, they reduce the heat and overcrowding inside, allowing worker bees to fan their wings and circulate air to protect the brood and keep the hive at the perfect temperature.

With the changes to Georgia’s cottage food laws, we’re now able to offer our homegrown canned delicacies!

Made right here in Eatonton from produce we’ve grown ourselves, our canned goods are packed with fresh-picked flavor and prepared with care. From sweet preserves to garden-fresh favorites, we’re excited to share a little taste of our garden with you.
