Memorial Day –

A U.S. federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May each year. It honors and remembers the men and women of the military who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Now This Veteran’s Thoughts on Memorial Day...

People often say, “Happy Memorial Day,” but is that the right sentiment for a day meant to honor our fallen military brothers and sisters? The answer is both yes and no.

Yes—because we have reason to be thankful. We live in a country where we enjoy incredible freedoms: the freedom to speak our minds, to come and go as we please, to make our own choices, and to simply live freely. These liberties are easy to take for granted, yet they came at a great cost. Memorial Day is a reminder of that price.

No—because it's not just another holiday, it's a time to reflect. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with backyard barbecues, picnics, parades, and celebrating the unofficial start of summer, let’s also pause to remember why we’re able to celebrate in the first place.

So today, take a moment. A moment of silence. A moment of gratitude. Let’s honor and remember the men and women who gave everything so we could live freely. That’s what Memorial Day is truly about.
