I'm FULLY vaccinated and, no, I don't know what's in it - neither this vaccine, the ones I had as a child, the ones I had to have to travel the world, nor in the 11 secret herbs and spices at KFC, or hot dogs, or other treatments…whether it's for cancer, AIDS, the vaccine for pneumonia, or vaccines for infants or children.

I also don't know what's in Ibuprofen, Tylenol, or other meds, it just cures my headaches & my pains.

I don't know what's in the ink for tattoos, vaping, Botox and fillers, or every ingredient in my soap or shampoo or even deodorants. I don’t know the long term effect of mobile phone use or whether or not that restaurant I just ate at REALLY used clean foods and washed their hands.

In short ...
There's a lot of things I don't know and never will…

I just know one thing: life is short, very short, and I still want to do something other than just staying locked in my home. I still want to travel and hug people without fear and find a little feeling of life "before".

As a child and as an adult I've been vaccinated for mumps, measles, polio, chickenpox, and quite a few others; my parents and I trusted the science and never had to suffer through or transmit any of the said diseases and,
I'm vaccinated, not to please the government but:
* To not die from Covid-19.
* To NOT clutter a hospital bed if I get sick.
* To hug my loved ones
* To Not have to do PCR or antigenic tests to go to a restaurant, go on holidays and many more things to come ...
* To live my life.
* To see and hug my family and friends
* For Covid-19 to be an old memory.
* To protect us.

Stole it from my friends FB page. Feel free to steal it from me! ✊🏾

The visit of Secretary Vilsack to ECO City Farms on 10/12/21 was exciting in part because it has been a long while since we have hosted all of our staff and trainees, let alone colleagues, partners, elected representatives and supporters. Sustainable agriculture is at the heart of what we do at ECO!

Providing the community with naturally grown produce while regenerating the land we use to grow on is vital to having a long lasting, positive impact on our environment. It is estimated that farmers will need to grow about 70% more food in order to feed the population of the world by 2050. At the same time, a large portion of the food we eat is produced in ways that are not beneficial to the environment.

To learn more about our second food day challenge topic on sustainability and regenerative agriculture, click on the link below. As a reminder, those who check off any 4 boxes on the bingo card will receive a free gift at our Open House on 10/23 (registration details coming soon!)

Did you know that on average, farmers only receive 14.3 cents of every dollar that consumers spend on food?

Supporting local sustainable agriculture by shopping at a farmer’s market or volunteering at a local farm/food nonprofit is a great way to directly support our farmers and increase access to healthy and fresh food for your community. These actions also check off two boxes under the food justice initiatives for our Food Day bingo challenge! Check out our blog post on the Food Justice movement for more information and resources on how to complete these actions. We can all contribute to uplifting a food system that ensures access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food for all!

Our Story

Engaged Community Offshoots, Inc. (ECO City Farms) is a nonprofit urban teaching and learning farm in Prince George's County that grows great food, farms and farmers in ways that protect, restore and sustain the natural environment and the health of local communities. Working with area children, youth and adults, ECO educates and trains the next generation of urban farmers, eaters and environmental activists.

Urban agriculture is about feeding people and nurturing communities, and also about practicing climate-smart agriculture. Our work intersects environmental preservation, neighborhood revitalization and community health. Our two “Certified Naturally Grown” farms are infrastructural fixes for the many community ills created by an inequitable local food system and environmental injustice. We seek to reverse the impact of outdated policies that make industrially produced, environmentally destructive, highly processed and less nutritious food the most abundant and cheapest available option in Prince George’s County’s low-income neighborhoods. ECO's educational programs retool residents with knowledge, gathering spaces and skills aimed at creating a healthier, more local, equitable and greener environment and economy.

Enjoy the season’s bounty including summer squash, tomatoes, and sweet peppers carefully seasoned to accentuate their natural flavors. This Shabbat dinner will exclusively feature food grown right there on the farm.
Attn: Riverdale Park Residents Students at the University of Maryland are conducting a survey regarding food insecurity in Riverdale Park. This survey seeks to identify if food or nutrition-related issues are prevalent in Riverdale Park. This survey takes approximately five to ten minutes and consists of questions regarding food security issues. Please distribute amongst family members and friends. Background: We are Environmental Science and Policy students at the University of Maryland enrolled in Senior Capstone this semester. For this course, teams of students are tasked with addressing environmental concerns in surrounding communities of College Park. Our team is responsible for determining the extent of food insecurity in Riverdale Park, which is a small municipality south of campus. Upon completion of our assessment of food insecurity, we will be providing recommendations for addressing these concerns to Riverdale Park's Mayor, Alan Thompson.
