Getting closer to the vendor show so I took a few pictures to look at the brooms. It helps me see would-be flaws in another perspective.
When I was a painter I always took the canvas and put up in a mirror and immediately saw any flaws.
The first one is a new broom, the “Bee” broom!

I can see that I need a long flat pan! And that red and yellow don’t make a true orange!
Live and learn!

My husband likes to cook. Today he wanted to make something new,so we got out his trusty Cajun Men Can Cook cookbook. It had a recipe for shrimp and pork jambalaya, but we substituted Tasso and andouille sausage for the shrimp and ham. He used pork shoulder for the pork portion. This is the kind of recipe where raw rice is cooked in the pot. That is a scary concept because you have to have some knowledge of how rice is steamed to perfection. Kyle has cooked rice in a simple pot before, so he understood how to turn that raw rice into nice steamed soft stuff.
Well, he followed the recipe well and guess what?
It was great!
My grandmother, who made jambalaya often- would have been proud!!
We used Richard’s sausage and Tasso, and pork shoulder from Foret’s meat market. (A local favorite!)
We don’t eat rice often, but this was worth the carbs!!
As for me, I put my feet up after making Melt In Your Mouth Pumpkin Bread….

Today another broom maker was kind enough to help me with my cap weaving. Now that I know what I’m doing wrong, I hope to correct it. She was so patient with me!
So I tried a new broom. My braiding still isn’t what hers was, but it was a teeny bit better!
Here’s my new broom and a new small whisk!
Tomorrow I’m going to dye some rice straw to make another. Let’s keep fingers crossed that I can get a good color!!

We grow rice here in Louisiana, and I wanted to experiment with the stalks so I created this:
A new broom this morning!
This one is made with rice straw and lemon grass. Braided in front and decorated with an antique key, rusty little bell, a crescent moon and rice stalks.
I love it!

My collection of brooms and whisks, cake testers is growing. It’s a great hobby.
