The down and dirty of farming. This past Saturday I did my first AI round on Lilac (we’re hoping it sticks) . My face is covered because my husband somehow always manages to get a photo of me when I’m making the worst possible face ever.

Now did I ever think when I grew up I would find myself with my hand up a cows rear ? No. But on this small farm keeping a bull for her is not an option. They are dangerous and destructive for the most part. So thanks to some encouragement from a friend, I took the course and figured out how to AI myself.

Besides learning the procedure I also learned how to cycle sync, which we did here because my girl wasn’t showing signs of a regular heat and since we used a sexed straw ($$$) I didn’t want to waste it.

So if everyone could say a little prayer that in 30 days we have a positive pregnancy test for a baby girl that would be great!

I know this isn’t glamorous but this is part of choosing this life. With this new skill I was able to select an a2a2 mini bull to match lilacs a2a2 genes but make her calf smaller and more manageable for smaller homesteads like us. If I continue to advance my education after several successful AI attempts I’ll be eligible to learn about embryo transfer, which will bring even more genetics to our farm.

When you have a passion for farming you’re always learning, always evolving. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.

Happy to be able to bring back our learning for tots back in conjunction with Mamaandmedoughco.

Come to the farm and learn all about apples and how they start from a tiny seed and grow to a big strong tree! Of course after there will be some time to day hi to some of the animals 😊

Mamaandmedoughco will bring her whimsical magic with apple themed sensory stations that are made with natural, dye free ingredients!

The Farmstand will be open tomorrow and eggs will be in the fridge. Most items will be in the fridge and shelf items limited stocking until this heat breaks. It ruins the product and the labels wasting the product over all.

All has been quiet on set because I have been working on organizing and stirring ideas to welcome you guys back to the farm! The new official launch of farm tours is here!

Come snuggle some animals and learn about everything we currently have going on here at the farm! Keep it short and sweet or explore some of our add on options:

Wool Processing Demo:

Experience a one on one demo of processing wool from start to finish here on the farm with wool from our own flock! Use some already processing wool to take home a needle felted gift to remember it!

Dairy Cow Demo:

Learn the ins and outs of owning a dairy cow, see what it’s like to milk and cow and learn about the up keep of a dairy cow. Perfect for anyone looking into owning their own dairy cow!

Graze and Greet:

Add on a charcuterie board for anyone in your group and one for the animals to enjoy throughout your farm tour!

Farm Chore Experience:

Jump on the team for a shift and experience what it’s like to take care of the variety of animals here on the farm!

Summer days on the farm are long. They are filled with constant tasks, but enjoyable, fulfilling tasks! Here’s a little clip of farmer Ryan showing our steer calf Cheeseburger a little 💕 love. Cheeseburger is not highly socialized well….because as you can guess by his name he’s not a permanent member here on the farm. One day he will feed our family and we are very grateful for that, but until then he still deserves love and head scratches!

The ladies are going through a hard molt so eggs are still limited friends. It seems between the combo of heat and other factors end of July/August always puts them on strike for a bit!

Planning to have the farm stand opened this coming weekend but will update with any changes!

Last but not least, WE’RE READY TO SEE YOU IN PERSON ON THE FARM AGAIN!!!! I will be working on updated flyers for farm tour information, day at the farm experiences, farm demos, animal husbandry classes, and some other fun stuff!
