Today's little creature is this Bumble Bee resting on Rosemary.

The wind kept flopping the branch around but you can see the antennae start moving as the day warms up and the sunshine gets closer.

As the temps drop, nature starts doing its thing. 🐝🍂

A carpenter bee spent the night on top of this African Marigold while temps dipped below 50°. It wasn’t dead because it didn't let go and curl up. It was in a cold coma and waiting for sun and warmth above 60° to get back to adventuring.

Kind of cool what you notice when you slow down and pay attention.

Just got home from the farmers market with these green onions! 🌱

I trimmed off most of the tops that were wilty or looking a little rough, then popped them into a cup with just enough water to cover the roots. They’re sitting in a sunny window now, where they’ll keep growing fresh green tops I can snip and use again and again.

A couple tips:

* Change/rinse the water every couple of days.
* Give the white ends and roots a cool water rinse.
* You only need enough water to cover the roots — no need to drown the whole onion.

These are replacing the ones I bought at the beginning of summer and kept growing for months… until I made the brilliant decision to leave the rubber band around them and they turned into a mushy, moldy mess.

Sooooo… don’t do that. 😂

Anybody else regrow their green onions instead of tossing the ends?

"Parsley Worm" Black Swallowtail Caterpillar on... you guessed it... parsley.

They enjoy parsley, dill, fennel. At this point it may just overwinter.

We will have to watch it and make sure it is safe.
