New collaborations can be life giving to your business! We met up with Brian and Stacie Anderson in Bowling Green last month to review last year’s chicken share beta test. It went so well that we are now trying pork shares too. Ahhhhh…. The power of the beta test!! We proved the concept and now we are ready to scale up. Sometimes all it takes is to look at something a different way. Collaborations can add so much energy (and easy revenue) if it’s a good fit.

Don’t be a silo. Partner with other great businesses. There is more than enough to go around.

My friend (and former Accelerator member) Jamie Pritchard stopped by today for a farm tour with sister Mandy and father Jimbo. It was awesome to reconnect and share a continuing ed “jam session.” How far we’ve all come. Keep growing! Enjoy your process of becoming. ❤️

A throwback to a few weeks ago when Kurt and I flew to Colorado to hike around the Pikes Peak area and enjoy some R & R. I love his tshirt — it describes how I feel these days.

Every morning I start out my devotion time with journaling gratitude sentences. Enough to fill a page. I’m telling you… this one practice is responsible for significantly shifting my mindset from one of scarcity to abundance. It took many many months of reps, but I believe this created a vital shift in me.

You must practice seeing the good before you start to see it in EVERY circumstance.

I believe in you!

Praise God. I am healed! I am pretty much at the finish line of a yearlong battle with gut health.

So stinking proud of myself.

I feel called to help others with GI symptoms as they navigate their own health journey. I am going to be sharing the whole story in small sound bites via email, starting in May, with my local farm customer audience. But I also want to offer it to any of the farmers who follow me…

If you want to get those specific emails, subscribe to my email list. I’ll make sure you know about that content thread when it starts. ❤️

This year’s reading list. Have you read any of these? Don’t go buy these yet! Some of them could be real duds. But I’m always trying to sharpen my marketing axe 🪓

You get better at sales when you STUDY it. And then practice practice practice.

I do have a recommended reading list of guaranteed winners though! You can find it at www.mydigitalfarmer.com/booklist

What’s on your must read book list?

These cleverly named spice collections caught my eye at the store last month. I noticed an impulse to “collect them all.” If they had been a local brand, I probably would have.

Have you ever noticed how once you find a brand you like, you want to try everything they have? This is a common response in your superfans. So make it easy for them to buy again, and look for things they can “collect.”

How we arrange our products,
how we name them,
how we position them,
how we sequence them,
how we group them…

These are all ways to capture attention and feed the desire to graduate through our brand’s product ladder.

What’s a collection you offer in your product suite? I want to know!

To move more product, try “limiting” something about it. This croissant glazed donut appeared in my bakery’s shop last week. I had never seen it before and I eagerly grabbed a dozen to try them out.

🤩🤪OMG. Flaky sweet goodness.

The clerk informed me that these popular croissants are ONLY BAKED ON FRIDAYS.

Brilliant marketing, right? You see what that does, don’t you? It’s going to make me SCHEDULE a regular trip to Ideal Bakery every Friday to get those special once-a-week croissants.

Where could you do something like this in your marketing? Limiting a product in some way is a powerful driver of sales. Try limiting the:

✴️ number of product available
✴️ time it’s available for sale (certain hour, month or day)
✴️ number you can purchase at one time
✴️ number of product available at a discounted price
✴️ offering a limited edition (tshirt, flavor, variety)

This episode. THIS!!! If you’re a farmer looking for a way to increase revenue so you can make enough to hire a team and start scaling your business, including value added products is a great way to get there.

I invited my friend Kendall Ballantine from Central Park Farms and to speak on the to share all about she created a prepared foods line that now powers 25% of her revenue. She breaks down all the steps to starting out in value added products. She’s a fabulous teacher. Come see the generosity in this episode - it’s so good.

This book. I adore it. It’s a daily inspirational word that seems to be speaking right where I am about 75% of the time. Major mindset helper for me, and it’s given me a few breakthroughs. I love it when I find a tool that helps me THINK differently — which is half the battle. I highly recommend it — especially if you’re into exploring your spiritual self.

Trying out a new product this season: dry land rice. This week we harvested one of the small batches. We’ll see how the yield is and decide if we want to scale this up next year.

As our online retail sales increase steadily, we are looking for more shelf stable products we can offer in our product line. This would be a great addition especially because no one else is doing it out here.

How do you package rice and/or what portion size do you use? Any tips for us?

That’s me carting in our first harvest of pawpaws. This is the first year these trees have yielded anything for us. Our customers have never heard of them - even though they are the native state fruit of Ohio. I’ve been using this as an opportunity to create curiosity and excitement in our customer base. Many in my target audience like being exposed to new foods. This is feeding that desire.

Incorporating something new can lead to momentum. Notice when the energy flow kicks up and there is “buzz” and a stirring of interest or curiosity. Follow this energy- it’s often a sign of potential life and growth.

Try this question as a question post if you’re a vegetable farm. You will be amazed how many people don’t know the answer. Plus it gets good engagement.

Question posts are some of my favorite types of content in social media. I have a huge list of them to pull from when I schedule my posts but sometimes I’ll just come up with one on the fly (like this one).

BTW: I will go back and re-post the same questions season after season. And they still do well.

TIP: Keep track of what you’re posting every month in a log, and just repeat 80% of it year after year. Truly, people will not remember, and repetition will help with your brand messaging.

Take a stab at the question…. Do YOU know the answer?
