Ever wonder why beef prices can't just ā€œfix themselvesā€ fast?

A heifer needs ~2 years to reach breeding age, then a 9-month pregnancy, then another 1-2 years before that calf is market-ready. That's a 3-4 year lag baked into the whole industry.

Imports are a short-term patch, time and support for ranchers is the actual fix.
