It’s been super busy with both our dogs and the client dogs, so I’ve slacked a bit on posting, but there’s been a lot going on with the chickens!

We brought home Salem, a young Jersey Giant rooster who is exceptionally friendly, since our rooster is disabled and having trouble breeding the girls.

One of our Mystic Maran hens randomly showed up with three chicks the other day, all of which are other Mystic Maran chicks (since that’s what our rooster is). I was looking it up and supposedly they’re auto-sexing. If that’s true, then all 3 of these chicks should be pullets.

Our other 6 young pullets that we purchased from TSC at a couple of days old to gift to our broody Plymouth Blue Rock hen are all big, and they made it to near-adulthood! They’re so cute to see them following mom around still, and I forgot how much I liked the little baby hen sounds.

Our first round of goslings left today at 5 weeks, so now we wait to see if the second hen successfully hatches out a batch of her own!

Their parents are NOT pleased that we caught and removed their babies… but we didn’t go into this planning to keep any from this round, sorry guys 🙏

Their first-time parents have done an excellent job at caring for them independently, so if you’re looking for birds for a breeding program I think they’d be a great fit!

If you’re looking for more in the future, I have others being hatched out right now and may part with the other 2 of the same age in a few weeks!

DEPOSITS

From now on, deposits will be required up front for *any* stock purchases, birds included. I am so beyond sick of people wasting my time, not showing up to pick ups, or just straight up ghosting me.

I understand the fear around deposits and not paying for animals up front, but to be yanked around like this constantly is so insane I’m just not dealing with it anymore.

I’m real torn on who I’m going to be retaining from this lambing… I was originally going to keep Solana & Wink, but I’m not 100% sure what I’m going to be doing with them now.

I’m pretty positive Honey Badger & Zinnia are still staying, but it’s funny how things change as they grow and mature! My goals and realistic capabilities shift with the year, and I’m not quite sure if retaining four is the best idea for us at the moment.

Time will tell 🐑🌾

Just baby Mali things 🔥👹

We’re a little over a week with Cinder now, and it’s been so cool seeing how good, strong genetics play such a role in the dog she’s developing into. It is unbelievable how smart and easy to work she is! (I’m thanking her parents for that ❤️)

Owning a well-bred dog has been a game changer, and I’ll definitely go with another one next!
