We’re updating our chicken processing prices to reflect the amount of work and the equipment involved. We briefly considered not offering this service anymore but we think it’s a valuable service to offer the community.

We will only process on days that we’re set up and doing our own. The remainder of dates for the year are Oct 16/17 and Nov 20/21

We are a wsda licensed poultry processor.

Hi! We did it again! We helped bid up a kid’s project at the Pierce County Youth Livestock Show! We’re going to sell this beef in quarter shares. We don’t know the hanging weight exactly yet, but expect it to be between around 800lb-850lbs.

You’ll pay us for the meat based on hanging weight, to recoup our costs (we paid per pound on live weight and paid the kill fee). Then you’ll pay the butcher the cost of cutting up and wrapping the meat. This steer should be sent to Olsen’s Meats in Enumclaw and be ready in 2-3weeks.

Sunday, at the King County Youth Livestock Auction, the last animal through the ring was a beautiful market steer raised by an 11-year-old local boy.

By the time his steer came up, many buyers had already spent their budgets, and the bidding just wasn’t reflecting the months of hard work he had put into his project. We couldn’t sit back and watch him walk away disappointed, so we jumped in to help make sure he received a more fair price for his steer.

Why am I telling you this?

We don’t actually need the beef—and we already have a waitlist for our own beef. But we know there’s a huge demand for locally raised, high-quality beef, and we’d love to connect this steer with families who have been patiently waiting.

I know this is a last-minute opportunity, but if you’ve been hoping to fill your freezer with locally raised beef while also supporting a hardworking young livestock exhibitor, send me a message. We’d love to make this a win for everyone.

Sunday, at the King County Youth Livestock Auction, the last animal through the ring was a beautiful market steer raised by an 11-year-old local boy.

Right now, our preference is to sell by the half and we have one half available. If we aren’t able to do that, we’ll look at offering quarters.

If you let us know soon, you’ll have the opportunity to choose your own cuts and how you’d like your beef processed.

Update: Thank you to our community for showing up for these kids!! There was 40+ turkeys for sale (the most ever!) and I was concerned that the prices would be really low due to that. But they weren’t! Often times, kids lose money on these projects.

The value isn’t in the money. They learn and gain so much more from the experience (responsibility, discipline, budgeting, salesmanship, marketing, public speaking, stewardship, etc.) But the monetary reward at the end definitely helps keep them motivated.

I encourage the community to attend next year! The auction is so much fun! The pride on these kids faces….priceless! Start saving for next year, because the kids with larger animals really need to get higher bids. Talk to your friends and family about splitting up a steer, pig, goat or lamb. Those kids really need our support. One steer almost went for less than the sales barn cull cattle do 😱.

Let’s keep kids excited about agriculture! The future of our food system depends on it!
