Surprise! What we thought was a false pregnancy turned out to be a late one with a single 13 lb 8 oz solid red buckling! Both mama and baby are doing good so hopefully no problems with this one.

Farm life is hard. Very rewarding most times, but so heart wrenching hard at times. After working a full day at my ‘regular’ job i came home to a second baby sick and was up most of the night with him and mama. We lost him through the night and i then stayed with mama in her pen as she greived. Most people only see the great things, the open space, the cute baby animals, the fun times at the fairs. But it comes with the bad like every other thing in life. It is hard.

This is why i always keep frozen colostrum on hand. Newest kids were not as lively as i liked so i helped the tired mama out and gave each of them another dose of nutri-drench followed by a warm bottle of colostrum. Hint: dipping the ni**le in molasses gives them a little energy boost and mama loves it on her grain to keep her energy up too
