Every animal at Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary carries a remarkable story — some have escaped slaughterhouses, others were simply “different” from the pack. Here, in this rare place, they live a life where they are not in distress or used for what their bodies can provide. Here, they are safe, free to live out their entire natural lifespans.
It’s the connections with these beautiful beings — each with their unique, complex personalities — that matter so much to me. I’m forever grateful for their courage to love and trust again, despite entering this world through immeasurable hardship and suffering.
It took me decades to realize how we built our society on the backs of these beings, and that it has become so normalized that we are unable to see the exploitation and cruelty happening all around us. We’ve been taught to replace their identities with the products we take: a cow equals beef and milk, a pig equals bacon, a chicken equals meat and eggs, a horse equals transportation, a sheep equals wool.
But when given a chance to shine, they are individuals — each with their own individual wants, relationships, and desires of their own. And still, over a trillion animals are killed every year, their stories erased by the systems we’ve accepted as normal.
Today — instead of asking, “what can this animal do for me?” I now ask: “what is best for this animal?”
That shift changed everything for me — something I hope others can open their hearts to one day 🐄🐖🐓🐑🐎❤️
