92 degrees on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 PM. and 2 tanks of chain saw fuel later the blown down hickory tree is cut up. Going to take tractor and push wood out of road!! Will soon be able to haul hay again.

What a difference a week makes !! This fellow hurt his ear last weekend. We found him hurt while we were feeding. A great big thank you to Dr. Steve Webb on his advice on how to treat him without antibiotics. We loaded him up in the trailer and hauled him across the road to our working chute. We had to go to our local Dollar General Store to get some corn starch that Doc. recommended and by that time it was 9:00 PM. The calf was great full and was licking on Edie as we were treating him. We finished up about 9;30 or 10:00 pm. No early supper or pool time that night 😢, just another day on the farm.
Some of you have asked what is involved in producing our beef. The beginning of the process is putting up hay to take care of the moma cows , bulls, and smaller calves during the winter months. The hay has to be mowed , tedded, raked , baled and hauled to the storage location. The stack of hay behind me consist of 90 , 5 x 5-3/4 rolls of hay in which will feed them for approximately 30 days. The hay cost to feed these cows is approximately $180.00 a day. The only income we have is from the income we receive from the older calves that we sell in packaged beef. The money we receive from our beef products is not only income from the processed calf but also for the up keep of our cow herd!!
I came home to move hay this afternoon and I found this laying in the road on the way to the bottom. This hickory tree was across the road from the storm this yesterday afternoon!

Our processor is recalling any ground Beef with Lot # 23 located on top right hand corner of label due to a piece of acrylic plastic from a clip board entering the grinder. We think we have recovered the affected packages, but for our peace of mind we are asking you to bring back any unused packages for replacement!!
