Excellent BBQ!

Huge pork ribs that were fall off the bone tender, half a chicken and the only place in town that serves mutton! Potato salad was excellent (sometimes it is made with too much mayo or mustard) as were the baked beans. Seasoned very well with some bacon and bbq sauce (?). The coleslaw was made with vinegar instead of mayo (my preference) and some celery seeds added the perfect flavor punch - earthy and grassy with a slight bitter edge.

Don’t forget about this great local restaurant with World Championship winning BBQ!

They were an Evansville Restaurant Week participating restaurant in 2016 and have burgoo available this time of year.

Don’t miss out on this great local restaurant with World Championship winning BBQ!

Today we are at the Eve of Christmas. This time of year, especially, is the time that everyone reflects on the past year, on the present and on their goals and hopes for the future. It is a time where we give thanks and appreciation for our many blessings, and a time to enjoy the company of our family and friends.

Times are very different today from when I was younger, and it seems that fewer and fewer people are cooking or enjoying meals at home. On several pages online there have been numerous posts asking what restaurants are open Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Should you choose to enjoy a meal out, *Please* remember that your restaurant owners / managers, kitchen staff, servers, bussers, hosts and dishwashers are sacrificing their time with family in order to provide you a convenient and enjoyable dining experience - on a day they arguably should be closed. They are sacrificing time that they won't ever get back in order to earn money for bills, presents, or maybe even basic necessities. Yes it's their job, but saying that isn't an excuse for generosity and appreciation. In our culture it is extremely common to reward businesses or employees for quality service and dedication to their job - from the mail carrier to hair stylists and your masseuse to UPS drivers, car wash staff and even grocery store baggers.

Throughout the year, but at Christmas especially, remember this and make sure to be especially pleasant, friendly, understanding, and most of all - generous. If you think of it, do something special for the staff - a card or small gift, a sincere "thank you" and "Merry Christmas," - to show you are appreciative of their time and efforts. Most of all, tip them well. Their job is to make your experience the best it can be. Reward them for this and for the time and experiences they are giving up.

Thank You and Merry Christmas to everyone!

Happy Repeal Day!!!

In February 1933, Congress adopted a resolution proposing the 21st Amendment to the Constitution, which repealed both the 18th Amendment and the Volstead Act. The resolution required state conventions, rather than the state legislatures, to approve the amendment, effectively reducing the process to a one-state, one-vote referendum rather than a popular vote contest. On December 5th, Utah became the 36th state to ratify the amendment, achieving the necessary majority for repeal and bringing an end to the era of national prohibition of alcohol in America. Interesting Fact: Indiana was the seventh state to sign to ratify the amendment, on June 26th 1933.

Conveniently located halfway between Thanksgiving and Christmas, at a time when most Americans are probably not spending time with family, repeal day presents a wonderful occasion to get together with friends and pay tribute to our constitutional rights.Stop by and pick up your favorite 6 pack to celebrate.

Wishing you a day filled with family, friends, love and gratitude.

“Thank you” to all who wear a uniform and are giving up a Thanksgiving at home with their families to serve and protect our country and its citizens.

Gratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings, noticing simple pleasures, and acknowledging everything that you receive. It means learning to live your life as if everything were a miracle, and being aware on a continuous basis of how much you’ve been given.

Enjoyed their Jompong special stew with chicken, the Jajang Myun special Korean pasta with beef, plus Mandoo pork dumplings, and Dak Gan Jang Korean seasoned chicken wings. Also ordered a sushi boat full of nigiri and the Buxton and Surf & Turf rolls. Tempura fried ice cream topped off the dinner. And yes there were a lot of leftovers!

Happy Autumn! Patio season will be over soon but there is still time to enjoy outdoor dining at our great local restaurants!

There are also two days and 3 nights remaining in Evansville Restaurant week!! Support local!!

Fall 2017 begins on September 22, early in the morning at 4:21 A.M. The autumnal equinox is when the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator from north to south. (The celestial equator is the circle in the celestial sphere halfway between the celestial poles. It can be thought of as the plane of Earth’s equator projected out onto the sphere.)

Another definition of fall is nights of below-freezing temperatures combined with days of temperatures below 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

The word equinox means “equal night”; night and day are about the same length of time. This occurs two times each year: Vernal in late March and Autumnal in late September.

In addition to the (approximately) equal hours of daylight and darkness, the equinoxes are times when the Sun’s apparent motion undergoes the most rapid change. Around the time of the equinoxes, variations in the position on the horizon where the Sun rises and sets can be noticed from one day to the next by alert observers.

From here on out, the temperatures begin to drop and the days start to get shorter than the nights (i.e., hours of daylight decline).

Excellent dinner at Yangs Shabu Shabu - had to try their Restaurant Week menu, plus some!

They have very unique crab Rangoon - light and crisp. Great flavor that isn't overpowered by cream cheese.

You can never go wrong with their dumplings (if they offer it again take their class on how to make them!). Each one is stuffed with pork, herbs and spices!!

Their beef ribs are one of my favorite things on the menu - savory and fall off the bone tender.

And their restaurant week menu items are both dishes I'd recommend they keep on their regular menu!! Large butterfly shrimp cooked perfectly and complimented by pineapple and a lemon, egg white and mayo sauce. The chicken was very flavorful and paired with al Dente green beans!

Their special menu is served until the 24th! Don't miss it!
