If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to add peonies to your garden, THIS IS IT!

Simply Peonies is joining the fun and bringing something a little different to stop #1 - IA Flower Farm

We LOVE our community. We LOVE sharing what we know. And we REALLY love helping you grow gorgeous peonies without making it complicated. So…we’re bringing a PEONY ROOT BAR! 🌱

We dug up some of our fan favorites a little early, and you get to pick your own peony root:

🌸 Coral Charm
🌸 Red Charm
🌸 Myrtle Gentry
🌸 Whopper
🌸 Joker
🌸 Jacorma

Pick your root, then stick around because we’re turning this into a little Peony 101 session. We’ll chat planting strategies, placement, soil, and everything you need to know to get your peonies off to a great start.

And for the curious gardeners…we’ll also have a large, established peony root on hand so we can talk about dividing techniques and show you what’s happening beneath the soil. 🌱👀

Basically, if you have a peony question, we’re here for it.

Bartzella Just Broke the Rules

A PEONY IN AUGUST?! 👀🌸

Just when we thought peony season was over, our Bartzella Itoh peony produced one unexpected, sweet little bloom…. two months after our season ended. Video evidence here so we all know this isn’t AI 🤪

Peony season here typically wraps up by mid June, so this surprise flower stopped us in our tracks.

But why does this happen?

Why can a peony bloom out of season?

There isn’t always one clear explanation.

Unusual weather such as summer heat followed by cooler temperatures may disrupt the plant’s normal growth cycle. Heat, drought, and other environmental stress can also influence flowering, although we can’t know whether stress caused this particular bloom.

The genetics of Itoh peonies may play a role, too. Hybrids like Bartzella can occasionally produce a rogue repeat bloom when conditions align.

So, while multiple factors could be why our Bartzella decided to flower in August, we can for sure say this:

Nature occasionally gives us the most beautiful surprises. 🌸

One August bloom.
One very surprised flower farmer.
One beautiful reminder that gardens don’t always follow the calendar.

Have you ever had a peony bloom when you least expected it?!

Well, the peonies may be winding down, but our gratitude certainly isn’t. 🌸

To our loyal customers who return year after year—thank you for making Simply Peonies part of your summer tradition.

To everyone who found us for the first time this season—welcome! We’re so glad a field full of peonies led you our way.

To the incredible local florists and fellow flower farms who support, encourage, and cheer each other on—thank you for being part of this wonderful community.

This season, thousands of peonies found their way into homes, celebrations, gifts, and special moments. We never take that for granted.

We like to joke that the peonies are the real stars around here—we just do the watering, weeding, and occasional pleading for them to bloom on schedule. 😉

Thank you for visiting, supporting, sharing, and spreading peony joy with us. Our hearts (and our farm boots) are very full. 💕

🌸 Thank you for a beautiful season. 🌸

Field update 🌸

Mother Nature tried to trip us up with a heavy rainstorm last night… but these peonies said “not today.” 🌧️✨

We’re officially down to our last few days of the season, and the field is still showing off with beautiful midseason color everywhere you look. Our late bloomers are finally ready for cutting — Myrtle Gentry, Nancy Nora, Jacorma, Lady Orchid, and Elsa Sass are stepping into their moment. 🤍

If you’ve been thinking about making a trip to the farm, this is your sign. Come wander the rows, soak in the last of peony season, and help us send these girls off in style before they’re gone for another year. 🌸
