If you get a chance to sit outside for a couple of hours, do it! Tonight is the peak of the sunset meteor shower! With a new moon and a planetary alignment you might not see this combo again, ever!

I don't mind the black snakes, but! Not in thr henhouse!

I relocated this little one too the pallet stack where I have seen plenty of critters including the pretty copper colored ones 😰

Not all snakes are bad, in fact most are good. You just have to properly dis/respect them to get them to do what you want. 🤣 In this case this one literally turned and faced me with a "Seriously? We're doing this right now??!" right at me.

I keep saying no one was ready for me when I was born and that includes Mother Nature LOL

Some days the farm life is a blast. Some days it's not. Some days it's cold! Some days it's hot.

And then! There's this nonsense!! 🤬😤😡

And your still have to do your farm work. Yesterday and today we needed to 1. Clean up the fence line with weedeating and then today 2. split the clearing pasture we had the goats in. One of the bucklings I posted about previously appears to be in rut, and our billy Bob certainly is.

Unfortunately, one of the girls is in her first heat which necessitated this weekend's project.

The difference between sun and shade was palpable. It felt like a 15 if not 20 degree difference. You still have to get things done.

If you find yourself out in this heat, be sure to take good care of yourself. Pack plenty of water! It may take a little longer but whatever it is, will get done. 👊

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and sit down!

Update! We've decided to keep these and look for a goat in milk to add to the herd

I'm thinking these 2 boys might just need a herd of their own.

Nigerian Dward twins birthed this last March. I'm willing to trade for a milking goat. One that is in milk currently. Their sire and dam are both ND, neither are registered and neither have been banded. But are sweet bucklings both. My original plan was to breed the blue eyed buckling in a year and band the brown eyed and keep him for grounds clearing. But we ended up buying their sire and no longer need them.

If anyone knows of a good swap meet or locals with goats, send them our way!!

This week we added a billy named Bob to the herd!

He was the father to the 2 bucklings we got back in May. Since joining the herd the bucklings, his boys, have since settled down and stopped bullying the other kids. We have 4 longhaired fainting goats and now 4 Nigeria dwarf goats.

I made the joke to the woman that we bought Bob from that it was as if the boys realized "Crap, Dad's back.. "

It does make you think through, about how important a strong male is to a family dynamic is. Whether it's a pack, a herd, pod or pride, strong males protect and in this case he's even taking the other 2 boys out to forage in the trees. The girls come and go and no longer are they constantly calling for us. The entire feeling is one where everyone is far more comfortable.

This last weekend we hosted a friend over for a lesson on processing chicken. It was hot, it was humid and it was Sunday the 5th after an incredible BBQ on the 4th!

While I missed an opportunity to take video and pictures it did get us thinking, if there are those out there that might want to learn how to do this for themselves?

If there's interest then we would be willing to host during our next processing day. Comment below if you might want to learn this skill!

Picture is of 2 pasture raised birds we processed this spring they made incredible tacos!

Last week I captured this gorgeous picture.

If I could paint, this is the scene I'd want to create and keep forever in oils.
