Oh Laurel 🤦‍♂️

Making 18lbs a day at barely two years old takes a lot out of you, so we have been working to dry Laurel up early and give her the rest of this year to put some effort into growing instead of making milk, she’s really not gotten the memo so far.

This girl is seriously one to watch as she continues to mature 🔥

Despite her fighting us HARD on the collar, we wanted to share this exciting first freshening 2 year old!

Raven is a doe who has truly been a lesson in patience. She was maybe one of the ugliest yearlings we’ve ever owned, but considering that her sire is Willow Run Atlas Romulus, we knew we needed to give her some time.

To add to this, she also suffered a neurological injury last summer that caused some rear leg weakness and spinal issues. Thankfully this is improving. Now at 2 years old she really seems to be coming into herself and we’re excited to see what the future holds for her!

Posted Halo on the personal page, but for anyone following here that didn’t get a chance to see, at 10 years old, FIELDLILY RENO’S HAZY HALO (FS: EX91 VEEE) is now a pending champion!

And to top it off she went on to win Water Hill’s FIRST ever best in show! So proud of this incredibly special and resilient doe.

The longevity we see in our primary dam line impresses me just about daily.

Pictured is Fieldlily Reno’s Hazy Halo, (FS 91 VEEE) at normal 12 hour milking time. She is currently just a few weeks shy of her 10th birthday and made 6.3lbs of milk this morning. At almost 10 years old and less than a month fresh, I’d say that’ll do!

These two girls make us excited to come out every morning. Two more not so perfect pictures just in the barn with about 8 hours of milk , but we like what we see. Then rear udders pictured at normal milking time.

The sundgau is 6 yr old, CH Shiloh Farms Silly Millie, and the solid black doe is our coming 2 year old IVF daughter of Rochester and Isabelle, we have finally got DNA sent off and are now just waiting on the lab in order to get this doe officially registered.

Taking a moment to be slightly vulnerable and post some pics I normally wouldn’t.
The dairy goat community can be full of harsh critics, many with positive intent, but harsh nonetheless. These pictures are far from perfect, but I’m too excited about the quality I see not to share.
Are they standing perfect or sporting precision clip jobs? Nope! But I like them anyway.
Keep in mind, this is also the very first time anyone of these kids has had a collar on or been set up for pictures, with that in mind I’m considerably impressed at how well they took it.

Pedigrees linked on each photo.

(And don’t judge my dirty blue boots 🫵)

As we work to migrate more of our goat posts from my personal page to our farm page, what better way to start than by introducing our new junior herdsire!

Last spring we attended a show in central Arkansas. I was walking through the barn, and was genuinely stopped in my tracks. Like a deer in the headlights, I stopped and stared. A doe stood in front of me, perfectly level top line, strong feet and legs, gorgeous well balanced udder, and the ideal amount of depth of barrel one would expect to see on a 2 year old. I truly could not (and still can’t) find any significant place to fault this doe. The doe was Shady Lawn RRRS Kyrie.

Finding out this doe was from the “K” line floored me, as I had admired the does of this line for years, but being a French Alpine breeder, had never had a use for experimental genetics in my breeding program. Funnily enough, that had changed just days before this show as we had the spontaneous opportunity to bring in a beautiful 50/50 Alpine/Saanen experimental when we brought the rest of our herd in from St. Louis to our new farm.

So now I had a good enough excuse to bring in something from the “K” line, AND the doe who stopped me in my tracks had ears! I began the conversation that weekend, almost one year ago now, to bring a son in from Kyrie. And here he is!

Introducing Shady Lawn SS King!

We are truly thrilled to see what additions this guy makes to our experimental program over the next few years, and cannot thank the Hitch’s enough for letting him come here ❤️
