Whoooieeeee!!!!!!! We are up to our ears in baby goats!!!!! Sweet eclipse had hers around 6am. Sadly one was stillborn and we could not save it. Her remaining two, a little doe and little buck, seemed to be doing well. Eclipse needed a little help so we cleaned the babies up and monitored the situation. After a few hours they both latched on to momma and all seemed right with the world. Or so we thought. We noticed the little buck had a foot that would roll forward when he walked causing him to walk on the first joint of his leg. We also noticed he was a little smaller than the doe. We concentrated on outside chores in order to continue to monitor them closely. At one point Kelly observed eclipse head butting the little buck. Hoping it was a one time incident (but preparing for the worst), we continued to watch and see what unfolded. A few hours later when we decided it was safe we began to finish chores and pack tools to head inside. The little buck was nursing good when eclipse decided to walk away. When he followed her she turned and head butted him, knocking him to the ground. She then head butted him again while he was on the ground. I quickly ran in and scooped him up to protect him. He is currently inside the house where we can bottle feed him and will remain there until he is bigger and stronger. We are definitely in for a long, rough one with this little guy but we are hopeful. He will recover inside with the injured chickens (we are dealing with a predator issue and in the middle of fortifying the coops and runs). So be prepared for constant updates on our little boy who I have named Cash.
