Here comes another Cash update!!!!! Our little guy is getting stronger every day. He is learning how to goat and is all over the place!!!! He eats non stop!!!!! And because finding a bottle baby goat sitter on such short notice is quite difficult, he got to spend the day with me at work. I think he actually enjoyed it.

Cash is a lot more spunky and active today than yesterday. He is still adjusting to the bottle but we are getting more food into him today. And of course he is more vocal today.

Quick Cash update: as with most bottle babies, getting the baby used to the bottle is no small feat and takes patience and consistency. We managed to get almost 2 ounces in Cash and he is adjusting to the bottle fairly quickly. We are excited and so looking forward to seeing him grow stronger over the next couple of days. Not looking forward to getting up every couple of hours but it will be sooooo worth it.

Whoooieeeee!!!!!!! We are up to our ears in baby goats!!!!! Sweet eclipse had hers around 6am. Sadly one was stillborn and we could not save it. Her remaining two, a little doe and little buck, seemed to be doing well. Eclipse needed a little help so we cleaned the babies up and monitored the situation. After a few hours they both latched on to momma and all seemed right with the world. Or so we thought. We noticed the little buck had a foot that would roll forward when he walked causing him to walk on the first joint of his leg. We also noticed he was a little smaller than the doe. We concentrated on outside chores in order to continue to monitor them closely. At one point Kelly observed eclipse head butting the little buck. Hoping it was a one time incident (but preparing for the worst), we continued to watch and see what unfolded. A few hours later when we decided it was safe we began to finish chores and pack tools to head inside. The little buck was nursing good when eclipse decided to walk away. When he followed her she turned and head butted him, knocking him to the ground. She then head butted him again while he was on the ground. I quickly ran in and scooped him up to protect him. He is currently inside the house where we can bottle feed him and will remain there until he is bigger and stronger. We are definitely in for a long, rough one with this little guy but we are hopeful. He will recover inside with the injured chickens (we are dealing with a predator issue and in the middle of fortifying the coops and runs). So be prepared for constant updates on our little boy who I have named Cash.

Well we have two more babies!!!!! Our sweet momma Peony had a little doe, who is her little clone, and a little buck. She is being such an attentive momma. The little ones are doing so good. We now have five babies!!!!!! Oh man it is going to get interesting on the farm once these little ones have a better understanding of their legs and get a little more mobile.

A little positive post to follow up. Our sweet girl Ivy, whom we refer to as our unigoat, had three beautiful babies this afternoon. Two does and a buck. All three babies are nursing well and practicing their bleats. Ivy is a very good momma. Cannot wait to see the mischief these three get into.

Small PSA as to why we haven’t been posting.
Not long after our last post Kelly started showing signs of a severe allergic reaction daily and we couldn’t figure out why or how to manage it. After extensive testing we learned that she has developed allergies to almost every common tree, grass, hay, and w**d in this region. She also has a small allergy to cows. While we are still battling her symptoms and trying to find a treatment that works, she is doing a lot better. Unfortunately, she does have to avoid being out on the farm for longer than 10-20 minutes at a time and has to shower immediately after so it’s been a stressful summer to say the least. BUT she remains hopeful in finding a treatment that allows her to get back to the farm work she loves.
