I come from a family of amazing knitters and crocheters! Most of my female family members have a bag with a current project whenever we get together. I've known the basics of knitting for years but always told myself knitting from a pattern was too hard. I'd make the occasional scarf or baby blanket but that was the extent of it. On a recent trip to NH to see family, I finally took the plunge and had mom show me how to make a cabled baby sweater. Although it wasn't easy, it wasn't as impossible as I had previously thought! I did have to rip out sections and there are still mistakes. But, I think the final product looks pretty good! Full disclosure: my mom sewed it together, made the hood and did the buttonholes. We didn't have time on the trip for her to show me all that. Maybe next time she comes to visit me, she can show me those steps. I made a 2nd sweater and am working on a third. It feels good to have a hobby that makes something practical at the end. Are you a knitter? What have you been working on? Is there a new hobby you'd like to try?
