We started off with the shrimp, bacon, and jalapeño dip. The natural sweetness of the shrimp compliments with spice of the jalapeño tied the dish together perfectly. Samuel had the battered and fried seafood meal. It was served with French fries and hush puppies. The hush puppies had a slightly sweet glaze and were just delicious! I had the Mexican empanadas with ground beef. With this meal, you get three fried potato tacos topped with queso fresco and salsa served with Mexican rice and beans. Last but not least, we had a chocolate, peanut butter, and banana pie. It was the perfect end to a wonderful meal.

Today, we decided to have brunch at Banqet Patisserie. We absolutely love this hidden gem on the edge of downtown Florence. It is a French bistro that has breakfast all day with lunch options. So far everything we have tried here is fantastic! Today, I decided on chai tea to go with my chicken club on a croissant. This sandwich has grilled chicken breast, bacon, gouda, lettuce, tomato, and a thin layer of honey mustard. The flavors blended perfectly. They make all the pastries and bread in house daily. Samuel had a breakfast plate and a cappuccino with heavy cream. The breakfast plate had bacon, two eggs over easy (you can get them anyway you like too), and a piece of sourdough toast. Now, the best part, the pastries! They have a good assortment of Danishes, croissants, and cookies. We decided on a multi-berry and strawberry Danish, brown butter chocolate chip cookie, breakfast cookie (oatmeal base with raisins, craisins, walnuts, and pecans), and an almond croissant.

Tonight, we went to YUMM Thai Sushi and Beyond for dinner. We started off with the crispy shrimp rolls. It was a spring roll wrapper fried to perfection with fresh shrimp accompanied by a thai sweet and sour sauce. The sauce by itself had a touch of heat, however, when eating it with the crispy shrimp roll it completely changed the sauce. The natural sweetness of the shrimp mellowed out the spice of the sauce. I ordered the pork katsu; it was crispy fried pork loin with a sweet sauce over it. The meat was tender and very flavorful. I got it with fried rice and sautéed vegetables. Normally, it is served with jasmine rice and an Asian slaw. Samuel ordered the tuna stack: seared ahi with diced avocado on top of sushi rice with a little tempura crunch and red tobiko (flying fish roe). The flavors were mild yet well balanced. For dessert, we both ordered their special butterscotch creme brûlée. The sugar was beautifully caramelized and the custard was perfectly set. It was a great end to a fantastic meal.

This morning we went to Café de Frida for breakfast. we started with drinks, I got the candy apple chai and Samuel got the banana bread latte. For breakfast I ordered the breakfast tacos. In the taco there is a fried egg, potato, cheese, bacon, (or house-made chorizo, I like the bacon), and a single slice of avocado. They are delicious! Samuel ordered the casa azul. It is a delicious breakfast sandwich. There are three slices of sourdough lightly toasted with two fried eggs, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese and mayo. Last but not least, the strawberry banana crêpes! They are lighted browned crêpes filled with sliced banana and nutella, topped with fresh strawberries, almonds (or pecans), sweetened condensed milk, and powdered sugar. In my opinion, they are better than the ones in Paris. It is heaven on a plate. Café de Frida is one of our favorite places for breakfast in the Shoals area!

Lunch at Luigi's Italian Restaurant Cullman today. You can't have an Italian restaurant without good bread. We enjoyed their complimentary bread dusted with Parmesan cheese; quad cities folks, this bread may look familiar to you. We started off with the fried cheese ravioli accompanied with their marinara sauce. The ravioli were like little pillows filled with ricotta cheese and two other cheeses; the marinara was a perfect compliment to the ravioli. Samuel ordered the baked trio pasta which included lasagna, manicotti, and cannelloni; the dish is baked with marinara sauce and topped with mozzarella cheese. All the flavors married well together. I ordered the fettuccine carbonara. It was fettuccine pasta with bacon in a white creamy sauce. It was a little on the rich side (for me) but it was still quite delicious. The taste was familiar to an alfredo sauce but the bacon taste was all throughout the sauce. We will definitely be back!

Strikers Steakhouse for dinner last night. We started off with the complimentary bread and butter. We decided on the tumbleweeds (thinly sliced onions, fried); they were light and crispy and served with a spicy ranch. The Caesar salad: the lettuce was nice and fresh, dressing was delicious, but I wish there was more Parmesan cheese. I ordered the bacon-wrapped shrimp coated in a honey BBQ sauce on a bed of seasoned rice, with mashed potato casserole. There were three skewers with three shrimp each (9 in total). The BBQ sauce accentuated the natural sweetness of the shrimp; the potatoes, were heavenly, topped with melted cheese, bacon, and chopped chives. Samuel ordered the French dip sandwich on a toasted bun with au jus for dipping. Overall, the meat was very flavorful and the au jus complimented the meat very well. The white cheddar mac and cheese was very mild but still tasty and his second side is the same potato casserole that I ordered. The fried cheese boulder was delicious with a subtle amount of heat (for someone who doesn't like spicy foods). And who could forget, the ever addicting fruit tea. Sorry, Rick's, they got you beat on the tea. Shout-out to Ruben, our waiter! He did a fantastic job and made sure we had everything that we needed. Overall, the food was delicious; we had a great time. We will be back!
