After a quick 1 3/4" of rain and hail this is the outcome. This is what the anti's and the EPA want to see so they can push their agenda. The farms with waterways were holding their soil and the ones without, well you can see what is going on. I walked a waterway that was taking water from a field that did not have a grassed waterway this morning. At the field border the water was black and full of dirt. 200 yds Down the grassed waterway the water had very little dirt in it. It was doing its job. We've as farmers have got to take the steps to keep the anti's and the big government out of our operations. Just my opinion for the day.

Here is one animal that proves a mothers love is greater than herself. Every year these killdeer are found in farmers fields throughout the Midwest. This bird can't weigh more than 20 ounces, but when a nest or her little ones are involved she will take on a 30 ton piece of farm machinery. Many a farmer have picked up and gone around or found the nest and moved it out of the way, myself included. God gave this bird the tenacity to take on anything that may threaten her family, broken wing trick and all. The things we see and do when we farm.

One hundred thirty six years ago this fall my great, great grandpa went out to harvest his first crop in America. A good day was 110 bushels picked and cribbed all by hand. Now 136 years later we are harvesting this same field that he did. Except, a good day is 12000 bushels and 110 bushels gets picked in about 150 feet. Pretty neat that I have my boots in the same dirt that he did with a dream of a new life in America.
When people say something is in your blood, they are right. Good job gramps!

Good and bad of the fall 2014
1. Bean head totaled
2. Good weather
3. Disappointment in bean yields ( some fields)
4. Lots of pheasants!
5. Grain dryer that is a piece of junk
6. Saw a couple good shooter bucks
7. Main input shaft on tractor busted
8. Corn yields are fantastic for the year we've had
9. Love being outside working
10. We've had a great fall harvest crew
All in all, the positives outweigh the negatives.
The light at the end of the tunnel is near.....

Day three of bean harvest. New head is here and running well. Beans are highly variable due to our summer weather. Lil' sis and the kids came home this weekend for a little farming fun. Keep on keeping on.
