Turrón de Doña Pepa 💜
In Peru, October is known as Mes Morado (“Purple Month”), the month of the Señor de los Milagros, one of Lima’s most important religious traditions. During this time, the city fills with processions, purple habits, purple decorations, and one very special seasonal flavor: Turrón de Doña Pepa. 💜

Made with layers of anise-scented baked sticks, rich fruit and chancaca syrup, and colorful sprinkles.

This one is even more special to me because it’s a family recipe I make with my sister Katia Olivos Lieveyns …some recipes bring back more than a flavor… they bring back childhood, family, and home. 💜

There are flavors you can go years without having, but the moment you taste them again, they take you straight back to childhood. 🇵🇪❤️

For me, it brings back memories of my mom bringing a Torta Helada to the table — one of the many desserts she made with such incredible ease.

After a few trials and adjustments, I finally feel like I’m getting closer to the Torta Helada I remember from my childhood.

My first Peruvian Torta Helada! 🇵🇪
Flavor: 10/10 😍🙌
Looks: let’s just say… she has potential. 🫣😬😂

This was my first try, and definitely not the prettiest one — but that’s part of my process.

It may not be Instagram-perfect yet, but the flavor is SO good… and now I already know what I’ll change for the next one.

For me, baking is a lot of learning, adjusting, and trying again — until I get it exactly where I want it. ♥️
