Just to clarify a couple of things and respond to a particular comment and mention of our late stallion, Paint Me Zippo, (for anyone who may not know, he was a crop out) and how owning him CONTRADICTS the view we expressed of the proposed, and now defeated, color rule change. We thought we would transparently share our response on our page:

Paint Me Zippo was where we got our start more than 30 years ago as young newlywed kids...that’s true. However, as we became more invested in our breeding program and evolved into full time breeding as our source to raise our family, we realized our desire and need to stay with more color. We love the American Paint horse...that will never change. My post was our opinion as full-time breeders in the industry, expressed on our farm page. We have absolutely no desire to downgrade any other stallion, nor did we in our post. We wish every stallion owner the very best in the future. The facts are.... we cannot continue breeding strictly paint horses as our life’s vocation....and the rule changes concerning color have hugely impacted that decision. You have very nice horses and John and I have always been very complementary of your stock. Best wishes for your future.😊

Another nail in the coffin… The paint breeder is slowly, but surely becoming a thing of the past. Ironically look at how APHA presents it.... this picture was taken several years ago on a visit APHA made to OUR farm. This tobiano stallion was sired by our very own Paint Me Zippo. We have raised a family of six children, two who are still at home, on our income as paint breeders. Sadly, this is no longer possible for us. Please consider this scenario...So you take your solid paint mare that is homozygous for W 20 and breed it to the hottest quarter horse in the nation and you automatically have a regular registry paint because your SOLID baby has one copy of W 20… There won’t be a loud overo or tobiano horse in the show pen eventually. Why even have an APHA association? We should just combine every breed and show all together. No need for a “color breed” if COLOR IS NO LONGER PRESENT. Years ago when we would compete in the two-year-old western pleasure, junior western pleasure, and other pleasure classes, there would be five cuts of 25 horses to show against. Those were the days when it REALLY meant something to be a world champion. If you were fortunate enough to win, you received the sacred title of “World Champion” because you just defeated 124 other horses competing for the same thing. When was the last time one of our world show pleasure classes had more than 100 horses in it? Our industry is suffering… Suffering to the point that I fear someday there will not even be what we call “our industry” anymore. If this rule passes we might as well consider making Special Invitation, who has been on the leading sire’s list for YEARS and YEARS a pasture gelding....even after all he has contributed with his offspring. I have no doubt I will get a few haters from this post and that is OK… No one hates this situation more than John and I do. However, we are so very thankful for all of the friends who have become family and all of the customers who have supported us over the years...we appreciate all of you more than you know❤️

We have gotten a few questions about our future in the horse industry with our recent decision to sell CR. We are NOT going anywhere… Horses are a huge part of who we are, and they ALWAYS will be. We have just decided we need to cut back so we can spend more time with our family and actually enjoy the horses, rather than be overwhelmed with the work involved. We are so blessed by the friendships we have made over the years.Thank you to everyone who is, has been, and will continue to be...part of our “Y” family. We think the world of all of you❤️
