With his girl gone at school, Wrangler is back at the farm. He's also on Weight Watchers.

Just a little shoutout to our farm manager and daughter, home for the weekend from vet school, helping the DNR do CWD sampling on a cold, rainy November deer hunt opener. She still made time to hang with her siblings, enjoy morning coffee and some family meals, do blood draws on the herd, and help her dad change the water pump in her car.

We're nearing the end of the breeding season with just five of 25 to go. The boys - Quarter Mile S Money Man, Never Fail National Treasure, and Kuhtz Dream Rocky Road here - are all getting ready to be laid off until next year and enjoy ten months of posh accommodations, all-you-can-eat buffets, and bachelorhood.

Kidding in January/February? We've been ordering in goat coats from Idaho for years, but I came across these fleece-lined, quilted dog coats at Menard's today. Just $5.99 after the rebate, no matter what size. They seem pretty rugged and the fur-lined collars mean your kids will be even more bourgeois than that other herd's kids. 😉

One step closer to updating one of our old barns into a dedicated buck & wether barn! The adjacent lean will continue to serve as our winter lot for the cattle and horses.

This old long shed was built over old corn cribs and used to house horses in eight 10x10 box stalls. It's in rough shape but has salvagable bones and potential. We've spent the last two days tearing down the hand-sawn oak in the stalls (you bet I'm saving the lumber) to prep for new pens and efficient management. Next spring, we hope to replace its roof.

Oh, the poor critters that live here.

One of our Embden goslings was brought into the house to snuggle by the woodstove. She plods along right between everyone's feet and is making herself quite at home.

Hellooo, new roof!

Less than 36 hours work, with a hard-working ragtag crew of two mid-forties adults (one with a blown knee) and our six kids (three who are adults) and we've got 90% of a new roof on the workshop. We finally had to call it a day, leaving the last two sheets and the rooftop ridge, thanks to a very windy Sunday afternoon. 💨

Goodbye, old, leaky shop roof!

This shed is 1/3 of the old farrowing shed on our farm, and it's been slowly getting improvements in the ten years we've been here. And yes, that is .dancer flexing on top of the roof. If you invite your adult kids to come home for a family project weekend, this is what you get.
