If there's one thing this farmer loves besides goats, it's coffee. It's the start of state fair week, so I dropped our kids and the county dairy goats at the fair, then headed to meet our farm manager and partake in the Twin Cities Coffee Crawl! When we signed up, we envisioned taking our time over multiple weekends, but we procrastinate!

Hitting seven coffeehouses in one day might have been pushing even my limits, but we got breakfast, whole coffee beans, and sparkling lemonade to balance things out at some of the spots.

Favorite spots that we'd recommend?

#1 Black Coffee & Waffle Bar - Excellent coffee and food. Coffee was brewed like Uncle Toollee made it - bold. Also, we highly recommend the Naughty Waffle - strawberries, bananas, blueberries, almond butter, granola, and cream. Sat for over an hour discussing farm plans. Ideal.

#2 Catzen Cafe - Delicious coffee, not overly sweet, and nicely presented, plus they have a cat room where you can sit and pet their cafe cats. As we regularly smell like a barn, we were highly popular.

Stay tuned for more state fair updates!

It's hard as a dairy to take vacations that don't involve splitting half the crew to stay and do chores and half to go to goat shows. So, we make our own vacations. Stay-cations, if you will. Here's to outdoor movies and camping in your own backyard.

As a reminder, we are looking for chore help for multiple dates this fall and winter. Email or message us to learn more.

It was AI day for the cows! We should have some lovely calves from Buddy at Flatland Farm next April!

Many thanks to Amber Feine-Rasmussen and Andrea Laumb for coming up to our circus of a farm, getting the cows bred, and joining the girls and I for a farmers' breakfast in town. Let's hope the coffee can keep us and whatever shenanigans find us fueled all day. ❤️

A fun weekend with great herds at the Quad State Classic in Spencer, Iowa! We beat the heat heading down Friday morning with trailer fans, cameras, and hygrometers to ensure safe travel for the does and the weekend went well.

Leaving the milkers home to recover from county fair week, we took just six Nubian juniors who hadn't yet earned their dry legs and were met with some solid competition in sizable classes. No big wins, but a good reminder and encouragement to keep working to improve our genetics and show game. We also brought our our token Oberhasli and one Saanen.

Of the Nubians:

1st Junior Kid: Liten Dal Verreaux's Eagle (3x)
6th, 7th, & 8th Intermediate Kid: Liten Dal Vulcan's Fire
7th & 8th Intermediate Kid: Liten Dal Palace of Versailles
1st, 2nd, & 4th Senior Kid: Liten Dal Victory Road
3rd, 3rd, & 5th Dry Yearling: Liten Dal Sweet Tiramisu
4th, 4th, & 5th Dry Yearling: Liten Dal True Romance

Emelia's new doe, Overzealous H Vintage Blues went first place senior doe kid in all three junior rings and Champion under judge Emily Thompson. Emelia was so proud of her doe, very protective of her first Oberhasli rosette, and so thankful to our friend Theresa Smith at Oberzealous Oberhaslis - and friends for entrusting her with Vintage!

Kathleen's Intermediate Kid, Liten Dal Fairfax Virginia went second place in all three Saanen junior rings. She's so excited to continue working with her and adding to Virginia's Four Seasons Farm (FSF) Dairy Goats and Tempo Passa genetics. Forever grateful to Laura Torbert Kieser for the brilliant start and support to Kathleen's Saanen journey!

Milk room update, part 1: 18+ years in the making, our new milking units will let us milk four does at a time and select a divert tank if needed. It also has an old lady spigot outlet so we don't have to lift giant tanks to empty.

*swoon*

Stay tuned for additional upgrades, arriving July 30 and hopefully installed the early August!

So grateful for these long-wished for upgrades that will help make our days easier and provide more time for family.

A portion of the herd munching down invasives in the bottoms. The shade is great in this heat, too.
