Meet the fam!
It seemed fitting today to introduce the folks and story behind it all! Today is their 36th Anniversary 💕
Martin (Pa) started tapping the trees in the woods at a very young age, after sparking interest, when he found some old wooden taps in his Grandfather's farmhouse attic. They were made and used by his Great Grandfather, who also made syrup from the maple woods at the farm.
Let's just say the interest quickly turned into a hobby and eventually a business. He says syrup season always went well with their dairy farming, while there was little feild work to be done late winter/early spring when the sap is flowing. Though it sounds to me like milking cows twice a day and boiling sap all day and night sounded like a crazy schedule! With help from his grandfather, cousin and uncle, he turned a great syrup crop for years. Including building a syrup shanty in the woods, there was many improvements to the operation yearly.
Late 80's came around when Rhonda (Ma) started dating Pa, and put in her fair share of work around the woods. Which, I am sure partly consisted of keeping the crew fed. Which she is still very great at today! Pa got busy with his custom cabinet business and sold his cows to provide for his family! His uncle and cousin continued on farming and the syrup operation as well. Pa and Ma got married in 1990 and then had 3 daughters. Who all, along with their husbands, are involved in keeping the maple syrup dream alive today. The grandkids also love enjoying nature in the woods and helping Grammy and Grampy!
Later in life, the Musolf family had the opportunity to own part of the farm and continue on the syrup business.
The Cedar River Sugarbush wouldn't be what it is today, without generations of hard workers that have farming in their blood and in their hearts. Thank you for reading along in my long post.
