Last week we made a stop at Bella Vista in Northern Algonquin. We have been there a few times before, but not as taco scanners. The service right away is friendly and polite, I opted for the Al Pastor tacos rice and beans but lettuce ๐Ÿฅฌ tomato ๐Ÿ… and cheese ๐Ÿง€ instead of onion ๐Ÿง… and cilantro, it's order and pay after meal. The tortillas are regular size instead of street taco sized, flavor of meat was great and sauces were good flavor as well, the red sauce had the smokey pepper flavor and perfect heat but didn't burn your face off. There was no complimentary chips and salsa:( and the rice and beans could have used more seasoning or salt, rice was decent enough but the beans had no depth. A simple fix or maybe just an off day. We do appreciate the atmosphere, and the drive thru option, not many taco places can do that well and keep it authentic. You can even add French fries to your orders! While no crimes were committed at this taco outing, we have big expectations for our rice and beans flavors, so we have to say we like this place a lot and reviews for catering seem pretty good too, we would definitely recommend fellow scanners to check out Bella Vista when in the ALG. Remember, if you're out this week and would like to provide us your own take on any McHenry or Lake County taco place, message us your review with photos! A bad taco is a crime!

For National Taco Day, the place was Taqueria Las Cumbres in Downtown Crystal Lake. I had the Chorizo tacos, and of course rice and beans. Chorizo is one of my favorites and its flavor varies with each restaurant. These were with lettuce ๐Ÿฅฌ, tomato ๐Ÿ… and cheese ๐Ÿง€. Flavor was a good one and I love throwing some frijoles on the taco ๐ŸŒฎ for that classic chorizo con frijoles combo I find takes me home. The chorizo being such a rich flavor, sort of mellows out deliciously when you add the beans. There are complimentary chips and salsa, I don't believe they are fresh made but the salsa has a nice saltiness to it that goes with the tacos well. The rice was good, not dry and still fluffy. There were green and red sauces offered but I stuck with the salsa from the chips. Total bill was $17.26 with water. It would have been 3 dollars less without the lettuce, tomato and cheese:( not an extreme value but it was quick and tasty, with a 5 dollar tip it came to 23 bucks It was fast and friendly service, there is a bar and gaming there. I have been several times and have not had a bad experience, and no crime was committed today. Happy National Taco Day! Let us know where you celebrated today!

Someone at the office said it was $1 at Tacos Y Tequila Rte 176 in Crystal Lake and I hurried over on my lunch break. I hadn't heard the former spot of Chingon BBQ(which I liked) is now Taco y Tequila. So it's sit down, to go, or even drive through as well, there is complimentary chips and salsa, that's always great ๐Ÿ‘ they came out warm and nicely salted but I don't believe they were made fresh, that's ok, the salsa is on the runny side but good flavor and I like the salsa for use with the tacos wherever we go, I like to try the combo, the other two available red and green sauces were about adequate, the red I thought could have used a bit more body or smokiness to it, but both were not too spicy ๐Ÿ”ฅ I chose the al pastor for my two tacos ๐ŸŒฎ (you can have more, it's just the last time I did 3 at Carlos River Cafe I was so stuffed ๐Ÿ˜†) the flavor and consistency was good, your choice of onion and Cilantro or lettuce tomato and cheese, the size of the taco is street taco size just fyi, and the steak ๐Ÿฅฉ taco is a quarter upcharge, no big deal, the rice and beans I have to try usually anywhere I am sitting down for tacos, beans were excellent, I also like to throw some of the beans on a taco occasionally especially if it's a chorizo taco. The rice was ok, it wasn't dry which is good but could have used a little salt I think, overall still a great value for Mexican food. Some of my favorite places to go for tacos are just so expensive, so this is a nice option to know on a budget or for a Taco Tuesday. They also have a full bar and service was fast and polite, so I yes I would meet you here for tacos ๐Ÿ˜œ๐ŸŒฎ sometime! I gotta get back and try the steak!
