As we near the solstice, the world darkens and slows. We pause to reflect on the season passed before we begin again. It is the right time to express our gratitude to so many individuals and organizations who have made a difference in the life of Framingham Community Farm. Nothing about fighting hunger is solitary - it is a collaborative mission. We are proud to be part of this work, and grateful to share this mission with so many others.

A Place To Turn Food Pantry– for distributing our produce to hungry neighbors with dignity and respect

Edwards Church UCC; Framingham, MA – for hosting our garden since the very beginning in 2017

First Parish in Framingham Unitarian Universalist – for hosting our expansion site since 2020 and for donating the refrigerator that kept our produce fresh after harvest

Rabbi Katy Z Allen– for her steadfast support since the beginning, and the generous vision of hiking across Massachsuetts with Gabi Mezger to raise funds in support our work

High Mowing Organic Seeds and SeedCatalog.com – for their donation of seeds

Seeds of Grace Fund and Transition Framingham – for grants in support of our operations and our expanded Grow Bags to Fight Hunger pilot program

Ma'yan Tikvah - A Wellspring of Hope – for the enthusiastic service of their families each spring and fall

Weston Nurseries Garden Centers – for providing the beautiful compost the enriches our soil every year

Bump Your Stump Stumpgrinding– for making it affordable for us to prepare our expanded site before winter

Energize Framingham -- whose high school interns brought their youthful energy and commitment to service on the farm

Daniel's Table – for their support of our new blueberry patch

And finally, to the many individuals –- family, friends and neighbors -- who said yes when asked, who showed up to volunteer when needed, who supported our work with time and financial contributions.

We are a tiny farm with a big heart and deep gratitude. Thank you!

Goodnight, little garden. Goodnight.

We completed the expansion of our food pantry garden this morning ... on another glorious November Saturday. It takes a village, they say. And I know for sure it's true.

It takes two adventurous and generous women willing to hike for miles, and their generous community of supporters.

It takes a church committed to using its campus as a part of its mission for good, and willing to provide a home for our food pantry garden.

It takes neighbors, friends, family, and many volunteers. To donate cardboard. To cut wood. To build the beds. To deliver the mountain of compost and soil. To fill the beds. To spread wood chips. (Not to mention the seed starting, and planting, and watering, trellising, weeding and harvesting that happens all season long.)

It is a perfect time to be grateful for what a community can do, together, to ease the burden of hunger.

And now we rest. ♥️

We couldn't have asked for a better day to begin our garden expansion project. This hardworking crew made quick work of building 8 new beds for the farm - having fun and learning new skills along the way. We are so grateful for their commitment. Good people. Good work. Good cause. ♥️

It might not look like much now, but big things are happening. An expansion of our vegetable beds and the addition of a blueberry patch will be the hallmarks of 2022. And while it makes for a busy conclusion to this growing season, it offers great hope for next year.

We invite you to help support this effort in two ways. First, you may sponsor Rabbi Katy Z Allen as she hikes across Massachusetts in a fundraiser for the farm. Her vision and generosity have made this project possible. This go fund me link (https://gofund.me/72866e00) will take you to the story of her adventure and allow you to donate.

Or bring your muscles and good spirit this Saturday morning, or next, to help build the new beds and fill them with soil and compost. We will begin about 10 each Saturday at Edwards Church in Saxonville and we welcome you to join us!

Good things are happening in our fight for food security. Thank you to all who share in this work!

Don't miss the chance to see what's growing at Framingham Community Farm and in home gardens of our neighbors and friends. Be inspired by the vegetable, fruit and flower gardens of others - and connect with others who are making their corner of the city a little greener! A wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning!

We are excited to announce that the Annual Framingham Vegetable Garden Tour is back! Join us on Saturday, August 28th from 10am – 1pm for a free tour of home and community gardens to get inspiration, ideas and advice from local gardeners.

The tour will be followed by a vegetable BBQ. This is a rain or shine event; only severe thunderstorms will cause cancellation. Please bring a reusable water bottle, a mask if you wish and as needed for indoor spaces (bathroom/water break at the McAuliffe branch library), and wear appropriate footwear for gardens.

● 10:00am – Meet at First Parish UU Church community garden, 24 Vernon Street (on Framingham Centre Green)
● 10:30am – Depart for tour of several local gardens — carpools encouraged, bike-friendly routes also possible.
● 1pm – Finish tour at First United Methodist Church garden, 360 Water Street for vegetable BBQ
