🐷 Today was weaning day for Bella’s babies! They’re 8 weeks old (should’ve probably weaned them at 6-7 weeks based on their size 😅).

I always say — I try to make it the worst day they’ll ever have. The little boars were castrated, and everyone got some new “ear jewelry” 💎 (aka tags).

Started something new this year — each sow now has her own color of ear tags. That way, when I mix multiple litters together, I can easily tell who belongs to who. Makes life a lot easier to figure out who is who!

These little ones are growing fast and looking great — Bella sure did a fine job! 🐖💪

🐷 Well… lesson learned (again)! Yesterday evening I moved the water tank into the juvenile feeder pig pen. It was getting late, and I figured it’d be fine until morning…

Woke up today to find they completely flipped it over and rolled it down the hill! 🤦‍♂️ I should’ve known better and strapped it down.

You just can’t have anything nice when you’ve got pigs! 😂

🌳🐖 New Woods, New Adventure! 🐖🌳

Check out this new patch of woods that’s never had pigs in it before! 👀
In the first picture, you can see just how grown up and wild it was — but not for long!

The second picture is 5 days later and shows the crew doing what they love best — foraging for acorns, black walnuts, grubs, worms, and roots. 🐷💪 These Idaho Pasture Pigs were born for this kind of work, and they’re having an absolute blast doing it!

I can’t wait to see what this woods looks like after a winter of them being in here. By spring, it should be super easy to clean up the sticks, branches, and treetops they’ve helped clear out.

🐷 Here come the Fab Four strutting up the alleyway like they own the place! 🐷

This alleyway setup has been a total oink-saver—less stress for me and the pigs, and a whole lot smoother when it’s time for big moves like this one from their old pasture. We are moving them all the way up to the big tree on the left. These four are headed off to the butcher this week, and thanks to the alleyway, the process was super calm, easy, and safe for everyone.

Honestly, this might be one of the best investments I’ve made on the farm so far. Work smarter, not harder... and keep the pigs happy along the way! 😄

🍝🐖 Tried something new tonight — a Spaghetti Squash & Pork Stir Fry recipe I found online! I used our Double Tap Farms fresh ground pork and a spaghetti squash I picked up at the farmers market… and let me tell you, it is awesome! 😋

Moved 11 feeder pigs into their future winter pasture! 🐷 This year we’re trying something new — keeping them in the woods through the colder months so they stay busy running and playing around the forest floor instead of tearing up our spring pastures. 🌲❄️
