As many of you know, my wife and I were both born and raised in Fremont. When we got married, we made the decision to stay here and raise our children in the same community that shaped us. We love our small town and couldn’t imagine calling anywhere else home.
Right out of high school, I joined the Fremont Fire Department, where I received my firefighting training and Medical First Responder certification. I proudly served for 18 years and loved every minute of it. Through emergency calls, public events, and everyday interactions, I built lifelong friendships and connections throughout our community. It was during those years that my fellow firefighters gave me the nickname “Hoser,” a name that has stayed with me ever since.
As life became busier with work, our children’s activities, and my growing catering business, I made the difficult decision to retire from the fire department. When I opened my food truck in 2024, I wanted its name to honor the years I spent serving this community and the people who have always meant so much to me. That’s how Hoser’s Firehouse BBQ was born.
My wife has also dedicated countless hours to Fremont. She has served on the Fremont Youth Football Board for more than ten years, working to improve the program and create opportunities for local children. During her time on the board, the organization introduced a spring flag football season to keep kids active, engaged, and having fun after the long winter months.
Giving back and supporting our community has always been at the heart of what we do.
As local entrepreneurs, we want to see every business in Fremont succeed. A thriving downtown and successful local businesses make our community stronger for everyone. We would never intentionally do anything that would hurt another business, because we know firsthand the hard work and sacrifice that comes with owning one.
Choosing the food truck route instead of opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant wasn’t about competing with anyone—it was simply the path that worked best for our family.
We have been overwhelmed by the support our community has shown us since opening. It has been incredible to see how many people have embraced our dream, and we are truly grateful. That’s why it has been so difficult to hear criticism suggesting that we don’t support other local businesses simply because we own one ourselves.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
After a long day serving customers or catering an event, we often choose to eat at local restaurants because, like many families, we don’t always want to cook when we get home. We enjoy supporting places like Blind Squirrel, The Bunker, Brew Works, Moon Dance Café, The Koffee Kuppe, Seasons Pizzeria, El Burrito Feliz and many others whenever we have the opportunity. Shopping local and supporting our neighbors has always been important to our family.
We believe there is room for everyone to succeed.
I would welcome the opportunity to participate in conversations about the future of local businesses in Fremont. I truly believe there are ideas that can benefit both restaurants and food trucks while strengthening our local economy as a whole. Open communication and collaboration are far more productive than division.
At the end of the day, we’re all working toward the same goal: building a stronger, more vibrant community that people are proud to call home. Every local business deserves a seat at the table and the opportunity to share their perspective, because when one of us succeeds, our entire community benefits.
We love Fremont. We believe in Fremont. And we will continue to support the people and businesses that make this community such a special place to live and raise a family.
