Hui! 📣 We have another panel full of grassroots energy justice warrior wahine this evening! Join us for another powerful conversation on how the energy transition can facilitate equity and sovereignty through community owned energy systems! ⁠⁠
The energy conversation is often dominated by technical "expertise" but these leaders are 100% experts on how to best steward energy development that benefits community well-being at a scale that demonstrates a deep kuleana to our natural resources. ⁠⁠
🌺Lori Buchanan is a Native Hawaiian born on Molokai and has decades worth of professional experience in the field of environmental conservation in Hawaii. She is the Vice-President of Hoʻāhu Energy Cooperative, serves as project coordinator for the Molokai Maui Invasive Species Committee, and owns and operates several small businesses. ⁠⁠
✊🏽Kapua Keliʻikoa-Kamai is Native Hawaiian born and raised in the Waiʻanae Moku. She currently a resident of Waiʻanae Valley Homestead where she served on the board for several years and is now an advisor. She has done extensive work in advocating for her social justice in her community and sovereignty rights. ⁠⁠
👊🏽Kamalani Keliʻikelu was born and raised in Laie and graduated from Kahuku High School. Kamalani is currently president of Ku Kiaʻi Kahuku community group and works in the Hawaiʻi State Senate for Kurt Fevella. ⁠⁠
☀️Ali Andrews is the CEO of Shake Energy Collaborative, a public benefit corporation developing renewable energy projects that are designed and owned by the communities that host them. Shake was born out of research for her Masters in Design Impact at Stanford University, in which Ali and her team explored designs for more meaningful, bidirectional community engagement in the energy industry. ⁠⁠
Moderator Sebastien Selarque is a graduate student in Urban Planning at UH Mānoa, and research assistant at Hawaii Natural Energy Institute whose work focuses on investigating root causes, identifying systemic solutions, and developing solutions that bolster societal, economical, and environmental resilience.

🌺 Keani Rawlins-Fernandez is current vice-chair of Maui Council Member born, graduate of Hawaiʻi Alliance for Progressive Action's Kuleana Academy and was born and raised on Molokai, and grew up in a family intimately connected to our 'āina rooted in the proverb, "He ali'i ka 'āina; he kauwa ke kanaka," or "the land is chief, people its servants." ⁠⁠
⛰️Eric Enos is the co-founder and Executive Director of Ka‘ala Farm, Inc., a Wai‘anae based community organization that has operated the Cultural Learning Center at Ka‘ala for nearly three decades. He is a life-long resident of Wai‘anae and deeply involved in the perpetuation of Wai‘anae’s cultural and ancestral traditions, like taro farming, as well as the management, care and restoration of the land and sea. ⁠⁠
✊🏽Walter Ritte is a Native Hawaiian educator from Ho‘olehua, Moloka‘i that has been a pillar of social activism for over forty years. He is founder of ‘Āina Momona, non-profit organization created for the purpose of supporting grassroots communities to restore fragile ecosystems, promote cultural rights and practices, enhance community well-being, and advocate for native rights and social justice. ⁠.⁠⁠
🎤Moderator Rachel James is a graduate of the William S. Richardson School of Law, where she earned certificates in Native Hawaiian Law and Environmental Law. Her prior work experiences include clean energy Project Management and Business Development Management, as well serving as the Senior Regional Representative for a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. She is also a board member for Hawaiʻi Peoples Fund and volunteer mentor for Center for Tomorrow’s Leaders.⁠⁠

Have you wondered where the awesome video content we’ve been sharing this Fall is coming from? Meet our Young Interns- Sophia and Niki Kim! On Niki: She likes horses and dogs. She kind of likes cats. She lives in Fresno, CA. She is the lego on the left. On Sophia: She likes jelly but not peanut butter. Isn’t that weird! She is 10 years old. She also thinks cats are weird.
