Great Lakes Brewing Float Shoppe root b**r with THC- Stumbled on this in a carryout, about the only root b**r they had, and I'll try anything. Plus I like their b**rs.

Attractive can and box design. Very light brown color, quick-dissipating head, mildly sweet aroma more like cream soda than root b**r. And, somehow, zero sweetness. Not quite as dry as the supposedly root b**r flavored sparkling water I had awhile back, but very sharp on the tongue, not sweet. Cane sugar is the second ingredient but I am not getting any of that. And zero rootiness. Why bother to say your pop is root b**r flavored when it very obviously is not? Maybe the active ingredient is canceling out the rooty and sweet aspects.

I've had worse, but this is not great, not at all a root b**r.

Gorilla Mind root b**r energy drink- Stumbled on this at a convenience store. Never heard of it, but then I am out of touch with pop culture and energy drinks.

Low calorie, high caffeine. Natural flavors, which raised my hopes that it might taste something like root b**r. I like the can design; not my style but bold and distinctive without being over the top and tacky. Pours out a fully-hydrated pale yellow. Decent but fast-dissipating head. Very mild aroma, hinting at cream soda and citrus.

I winced when I first tasted it, and every sip thereafter. Bitter, sour, citrusy, zero rootiness. Like a mild off-brand diet Mountain Dew; far less sweet, more bitter, with a dry yet still creamy aftertaste. Not sour enough to be like one of my daughter's super-sour candies, not masochism-sour. Just not-enjoyable sour. I won't finish this. Perhaps a sip or two each morning this week to jolt me awake with its caffeine and off-putting flavor. Not the worst thing I've ever tasted, or the worst root b**r, or even the worst root-b**r-adjacent energy drink. But not at all pleasant.

Mug Floats Vanilla Howler- Glad to see A&W and Mug releasing 20-ouncers; I hesitated to buy 12-packs of their new offerings, between the price and potential wastage.

Nice looking label. Light caramel color. Sweet aroma, with an herbal touch. Decent head, sticks around a bit. Tastes nothing like root b**r. Not even like a float. Creme soda with a slight bite. Pleasant but nothing special. Not horrible, but glad I don't have 11 cans to drink or give away or pitch.

Ghost A&W root b**r- I've been chasing this down for weeks, went half a dozen places before I found it at a plain old Kroger. Big can, good graphics.

I'm not an energy drink fan. And the root b**r flavored ones I've had have been awful and not very rooty. This one gets lots of good reviews, including one convenience store clerk who said it tastes just like A&W. So I was hopeful. And: it's not bad. Pours out pale yellow, looks and smells like a cream soda. Taste? A hit of rootiness up front, then cream soda and citrus. The best root b**r flavored energy drink I've had, but that's a low bar. Does not taste just like A&W. Does have a hint of it. Cloyingly sweet but slightly off. A hint of sourness, presumably from artificial sweeteners. 200mg of caffeine if you need it.

Orange Leaf root b**r Fizz Cup: I'd heard this frozen yogurt place had a root b**r float (and it turns out they do have a seasonal root b**r yogurt flavor, but not right now.) Turns out to be a thing called a Fizz Cup: a bowl screws onto the top of a bottle of root b**r (or other flavor pop,) they fill the cup with your choice of yogurt (I went with vanilla; birthday cake or pineapple seemed a step too far,) and you squeeze the bottle to mix root b**r with yogurt.

It works. It's strange. Be sure to leave the lid on; the liquid spouts like a whale. Pretty tall so awkward to eat, and not car-friendly; I'd hoped to drink the float while running errands. Fun for kids, though so tall that they'll have to hold it in their laps, potentially creating a disastrous mess. Not enough yogurt to finish the bottle; I'm sure if I'd stayed they would have refilled it or let me do it.

Not something I'd do again, but a unique experience I'm glad I had. And I have most of a bottle of A&W for later.

Readmore Coffee root b**r float latte- Colocated with Birdie Books in Westerville, Ohio, Readmore has coffee (and alcohol, and pastries, and banana pudding...) My wife went, and noticed the root b**r latte, and of course told me.

I went as soon as I had a chance. Nice little coffeeshop/bookstore combo. All I got was the latte. Very nice, but not very rootb**ry. The cream and cinnamon on top overwhelmed whatever there was at first, and I would not have guessed it was root b**r flavored at all. The flavor did get stronger towards the bottom. I assume they are using root b**r syrup, maybe even the Monin I had in a root b**r milk a few weeks ago. It's fine, and a good latte, but not particularly rooty. Pleasant enough, and in a cool place. I wouldn't recommend a detour but if you are nearby, or a book-lover, worth stopping in.

Beatrix root b**r milk- Visiting Chicago, but not much chance to chase down root b**rs. Went to a breakfast place nearby called Beatrix, and they had flavored milks, including, shockingly, root b**r. I've had root b**r milk in bottles, mainly from Amish markets, but never seen it on a menu.

My daughter got their strawberry milk, syrup made in-house and tasting of fresh strawberries. Sadly the root b**r version is not made there; they use Monin syrup. But still, a tasty refreshing treat. Creamy; mildly flavored of root b**r. A strong root b**r barrel candy component. Pleasant, and I'd get it again- or make it at home.
