We spend more time on our phones, in front of our computers, and staring at the television than we realize. All that stimulation is making us anxious, distracted, and taking away from our overall well-being.

If you still don’t think you spend THAT much time on your phone, try turning on your weekly screen time reports on your phone, or go through your settings to see how much time you average on an app. You’ll probably be surprised!

Try to set limits for yourself. You can do this with the help of your smartphone, certain apps on your computer, or just with sheer willpower. Start slow (cold turkey might be hard), and keep your phone in another room while you cook, do household chores, read a book, go for a walk, or do something else that doesn’t require a screen.

We all have certain scents that bring a smile to our faces. For you, it might be fresh bread, a newly mowed lawn, the perfume or cologne of a loved one, or something else. While it might not be possible to bring ALL of your favorite smells into your home, there’s no doubt that we feel a strong sense of connection to smells in general, and that particular smells can affect our mood.

To boost your mood, bring scents into your home that make you feel happy, calm, and balanced. For some, this might mean browsing the candle aisle. For others, this might mean keeping some essential oils within reach. If you’re very sensitive to fragrances, consider boiling herbs and citrus with water on your stove and allowing the aroma to fill your home. You might also experiment with fresh flowers, cedarwood chips, dried herbs stuffed in pouches, or cinnamon sticks.

Internalize the idea that self-critique will not make you a better person; it will only make you an unhappy person.

When we criticize ourselves, part of us knows that it’s not good for our mental health to engage in negative thought patterns, but the other part of us believes that without that self-critique, we’ll be unmotivated to move forward and get “better.” We fall into the trap of thinking, “If I stop holding myself accountable for the ways I’m not perfect, that’s like admitting that I’ll never be perfect, and I’m permanently inadequate.”

But that’s not true.

When you put down the whip you’ve been beating yourself with, you don’t become more inadequate—you begin to heal!

Here are a few examples:

- Using an adult coloring book to self-soothe and wind down anxieties by focusing on the present moment on colors and shapes in front of you.

- Outline a heart and fill it in with words, drawings, or other types of images that represent your emotions.

Generally speaking, we often forget to drink enough water or allow ourselves access to fresh water regularly. Unfortunately, this dehydration can make us move slower, feel less energized, and just gets in the way of allowing our bodies to function as they need to.

Challenge yourself to drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up, like while your coffee is brewing, to jumpstart your body after it’s been fasting from liquids all night. Then, throughout the day, keep freshwater within reach. This might mean investing in a pretty water bottle that you’re proud to sport on your desk and walk around with all day.

If plain water doesn’t feel exciting enough, try adding lemon juice, cucumber slices, fresh aloe vera juice, fresh mint, or any combination of citrus, berries, and herbs. Alternatively, you might try brewing some weak tea to sip on throughout the day for a little added flavor.

Too often, we jump to self-criticism when we look at ourselves in the mirror. Thoughts like, “look at these wrinkles,” “I’m so fat,” and “how can I fix this” quickly crop up without us even realizing it. These are patterns of negative self-talk, and they add up over the decades, damaging our self-esteem and outlook on life.

Next time you look in the mirror, pause your negative thoughts and list off one positive thing that you see. Start with just one, and build up from there!

You say this all the time!
My weight loss journey is not just about weight loss. In fact, it is more about purging the sugar, learning to eat healthy portions and options again, and ridding my body of inflammation. That being said, I am at a point that I want to be more mindful of my IP choices now so that I set the tone for what I want my healthy eating to be like when I start Phase 4. So, the sweet restricted options need to be every once in awhile for me. Also, I realized that the couple of coffees that I had with cream led to slight increase in body fat count. Amazing how the IP scale tells on us!
I started Ideal Protein almost 6 weeks ago. At first, I wasn't sure I could do this. Now, I am committed! I knew that I was hooked on sugar but didn't realize just how much til now. Feeling so much better. No scale gains are very helpful, like realizing that I eat from habit not from actual hunger or seeing the reduction in inflammation. Furthermore, the real fat, the fat in hard to lose places, is starting to come off.
Is this real? And in Galesburg Illinois?!? Lol I may be interested... Going to bed now though. Goodnight.
