Tough day today, with the wind. I had just finished shoveling a couple of tons of cow manure off the trailer onto spots for olive trees that are due to arrive early next week, when I noticed the wind had torn open a zipper on one end of the high tunnel. I had to install framing and sister together a couple of deck boards over the broken zipper. Finished up daylight with opening up faucets in the shop and trailer to a slow drip to keep from freezing tonight. Forecast for Garfield is low of 21 with winds of up to 30 mph. Extra rations for the animals today to help them through the night.

6000 feet of irrigation trenches dug, pipe laid, connected to water source and filled today, with lots of help from Relinda Walker and Elliot McGann. Lunch of homegrown egg omelets, cole slaw (Red Earth Farm cabbage) and coconut brown rice. What a day, sunny with high near 80 degrees.

Spending the day cleaning out the high tunnel - lots of dead tomatoes, basil, etc. More lettuces and Arugula, kale to go in. Looks like the lemon grass did suffer after all from the freeze. Stalks are rustling in the breeze with the sides open, and have turned grayish green.

Irrigation all survived intact over 12 hrs below freezing.

Overnight lows of 19 degrees, and all the basil is now killed, along with the tomatoes, peanuts and ground cherries in the high tunnel. Lemon grass, brussels sprouts, kale, lettuces, and daikon survived.
