People act like duck coop cleaning has to be a full-time job. It doesn’t.

At Waddleberry, we don’t give food or water in the coop at night. That alone changed everything.

Here’s what actually works for us:
• Deep straw bedding—flipped throughout the week
• Full switch-out every 7 days
• Coops lined with linoleum (yes, like for floors) so if there’s a mess, we can spray it down and pull the water out with a farm squeegee
• Mint and lavender planted around the coop to keep things fresh naturally

It’s clean, quick, and we’re not out there gagging in a cloud of duck funk.

Don’t let the internet overcomplicate duck care. Keep it simple. Keep it clean.

🦆✨ Drop a “clean coop crew” in the comments if you’re team low-maintenance like us.

Waterproof from the moment they hatch. 🦆💧
Ducklings borrow mama’s oils or activate their own preen glands—tiny built-in oil factories that keep their fluff floatin’.
Straight outta the egg and ready to swim.

🦆 Let’s Talk Duck Feet: What Is Bumblefoot & How to Prevent It

If you’ve got ducks, keeping an eye on their feet is a must.
Bumblefoot is a painful infection of the foot caused by Staph bacteria, which enter through cuts, scrapes, or pressure sores. Left untreated, it can get serious fast.

What causes it?
— Rough or sharp surfaces (think rocks, wire, or hard-packed dirt)
— Obesity or lack of movement
— Poor hygiene in the coop or run
— Splinters, punctures, or injuries from jumping off high places

What to look for:
🚨 Swelling or a hot, red bump on the bottom of the foot
🚨 Limping or not wanting to walk
🚨 A dark scab or hard lump

How to prevent it:
🟢 Keep bedding clean and soft—pine shavings or straw are great options
🟢 Provide plenty of space for movement and soft ground to walk on
🟢 Trim nails regularly to avoid awkward landings
🟢 Avoid wire-bottom cages and harsh terrain in their runs
🟢 Keep things tidy—clean coops mean fewer chances for bacteria to build up

✨ Catching it early makes all the difference. Mild cases can often be treated at home, but anything deep or infected needs a vet’s care. If you’re treating it yourself, gloves and proper sanitation are a must—Staph bacteria can be dangerous to humans, so take extra care when handling it.

Because here, happy feet = happy ducks. 🐾💜

Did you know not all ducks quack?
Some hiss. Some squeak. Some scream like tiny feathered banshees.
And honestly? We’re obsessed with every single one of them.

Life on the ranch is never quiet—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

What Is Angel Wing (and How to Fix It) 🪽🦆

Angel wing is a condition where the last joint of a duck’s wing sticks out sideways instead of lying flat against the body. It’s most often seen in fast-growing breeds like Call ducks, especially during their rapid growth stages between 3–5 weeks old.

It can be caused by too much protein, high-calorie diets, or even genetics—and it’s more common than you’d think!

👉 How to Fix It:
1. Adjust the diet – Lower the protein to around 15–16% and cut back on treats like corn or bread.
2. Add niacin – Sprinkle in brewer’s yeast or use a water-soluble duck supplement.
3. Wrap the wing – Use vet wrap or medical tape to gently wrap the wing against the body for a few days to a week. This helps the joint reset as feathers grow in.

💡 The key is catching it early! Angel wing is usually fixable if treated quickly.

But don’t worry—even if it doesn’t correct fully, your duck can still live a long, happy life! Angel wing is cosmetic only and doesn’t affect their overall health or quality of life. 💜
