Judy Reinford Photography captured this beautiful picture at the end of the day that was filled with great learning experiences on and off the horse.
She captioned it: End of the day...Hill Crest Farm is a great place to learn how to ride and experience horsemanship.
Here are some pictures of the cats of Hill Crest. Momma, Princess, Coco, Simba, Milo.
There is nothing more precious then the bond between a horse and a girl 💗. Kitty became Sarah’s best friend in January 2022. Since, then, they have grown together and developed a special bond. Kitty is the perfect pony 💗.
A girl and her first horse. I was lucky to be at the barn the day that this little lady and her horse met. It's a special day when any animal becomes family, but a horse and a little girl are really special. This image was created a few weeks ago, months after that first day. They work great together in and out of the saddle.
Congratulations to all the Hill Crest Farm riders. Their had work and dedication paid off this show season.

Another cold and wet day of showing down at Bucks County Horse Park for the LVDA Championships. Beth and Petey splashed through the puddles to come out with a 65.429 in First 2 and 65.833 in First 3. Coming out with Reserve Champion for my AA First Level division! No pics with the ribbon until we got back to the barn because we were cold and wet by that time, lol.
So proud of Sarah and Kitty. LVDA Championship Horse Show was their last show of the season and she rocked it. She was Champion in the Intro A/B youth division.

There is little doubt that dressage is steeped in tradition. Surprisingly, however, there are very few dressage shows that have been recognized by US Equestrian as “Heritage Competitions.” While there are admittedly few of these, one of the most famous is nestled in the town of Devon, Pennsylvania. Since July 2, 1896, horse shows have been held on those grounds - that is 126 years of horse shows!
In this reprint from Sidelines Magazine, USDF President George Williams writes about Dressage at Devon: https://yourdressage.org/2022/09/23/a-tribute-to-tradition/

Binti Jua,the gorilla who saved a 3 yr old boy that climbed the wall around her zoo enclosure & fell 18 feet onto concrete below, rendering him unconscious with a broken hand & a vicious gash on the side of his face.
Binti walked to the boy while helpless spectators screamed, certain the gorilla would harm the child.
Binti picked up the child, cradling him as she did her own infant, gave him a few pats on the back, and carried him 59 ft to an access entrance,so that personnel could retrieve him.
This incident happened in 1996.
Yes!
If your horse changes his lead in canter, usually, that's because he is unbalanced, lacks suppleness, or has some physical problem.
Championship Qualifier List | Lehigh Valley Dressa
Today’s exercise is something I call The Snowman ⛄️. Starting in trot on a 20m circle to the left at E & B, establish a working trot with good energy and a steady bend to the left. (This is the body of the snowman.) As you cross over one centerline, make a 10m (or slightly larger) circle to the right. (This is the head of the snowman.) After one smaller circle to the right, come back onto the 20 m circle to the left, and ask for canter right away.
This exercise is helpful for horses at any level. For very young or green horses, it is a helpful way to get the correct lead in the canter, if the horse struggles to pick it up.
For a Tr/First level horse, this exercise is especially helpful to ride in the direction that the horse tends to bulge its outside shoulder. If your horse tends to bulge the outside (R) shoulder when tracking LEFT, riding a smaller circle to the RIGHT lets you bend the horse RIGHT and push him out off your RIGHT leg. Then as you come back to the 20m circle LEFT, he should be more respectful of your RIGHT leg and not bulge out as much. This will help to get a better canter depart, because you can keep him better balanced “across” his shoulders.
For a more advanced horse, this is a great way to practice multiple canter-trot-canter transitions to build strength and longitudinal suppleness through the back, while the frequent changes of direction and smaller circle improves lateral suppleness. Start the exercise the same way, but then ride a transition from canter to trot just before the next centerline and repeat the smaller circle to the outside in trot, then back to canter on the 20m circle, then back to trot before the next centerline and onto a smaller circle to the outside, etc, etc.
Video of a green horse and a 1st level horse schooling this exercise in the comments.
Try it out! What do you think? Did you already have this exercise in your repertoire?
