was running a buy 2/get 1 free special on their beautiful peaches, so naturally we bought a bushel and a half. This also meant an hour and a half peeling an enormous amount of peaches (about a half bushel) and 3+ hours cooking, which led to slightly scorched peach preserves. 🥴 On toast, they aren't so bad, tasting more like peach butter than peach preserves. You win some, you lose some.🤷‍♀️🍑

Snake snack, anyone? One of our juvenile cockerels caught and slurped down a baby snake. (Film clip is not great quality. He was not about to share and kept running away. Lol.)

One of those fun farm days:
1.Storm punched hole in barn roof, now patched.
2.Storm washed out section of fence, now temporarily mended.
3.Garage door opener spring broke, still watching YouTube DIY videos.

Thankful for a dry, unflooded house, though. God is good.

"Madder than a wet hen."

Our sweet ladies aren't mad, but, as they preen their drenched feathers, they are thinking a break from the monsoon levels of rain would be nice.

Luther Hollow hens have been busy girls this laying season. On pasture, they feast on a variety of wild herbs, grasses, bugs and various pests, supplemented by hand mixed whole food feed, resulting in a stellar rate of lay, with eggs yolks sunset orange in color. 🥚❤️

We are loving our now 7-week-old Salmon Faverolles chicks we purchased from Jessica Fries of Cackling Creek Farmstead in Decatur, TN. Jessica is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and wonderful to work with, and her birds are exquisite. These chicks, Lord willing, are the beginning seed stock of our own breeding project here on the homestead.

The Salmon Faverolles is a dimorphic breed, with distinct differences between male and female coloring, as seen above, which begins to present itself around week 3-4.

Hatching eggs arrived from Halbert Farm of Burleson, TX for the Salmon Faverolles project. These, Lord willing, will provide another genetic line for our breeding program. Praying the hatch rate will be high. 🥚
