Tiny Dinosaurs Hatchery

Tiny Dinosaurs Hatchery We breed rare heritage turkeys with uncommon (and occasionally unhinged) feather coloring in ne Wyoming. NPIP 83-38

Fueled by caffeine, chaos, and an unhealthy interest in turkey genetics.

I wish I could tell you things are normally more dignified around here. They are not. Not even a little bit. Honestly, the turkey pile was a pretty accurate introduction.
The turkeys pretty much run my world. I'm just here to love them, raise them, and make sure everybody stays alive while they do whatever the hell it is they've decided we're doing that day. 😂

Since everyone’s showing off their Chocolate varieties, I thought I’d throw one of ours into the mix. Here’s one of our first generation Mottled Chocolates.
This will be a pen further down the road we’ll be considering. Really curious how he’ll grow out, as the white feathers came in on the newest molt.
These are the ones that looked like Chocolate Tuxedos at hatch, but started showing little grey/white specks in the brown once they shed their down. If your Chocolate pen has a chance of producing them according to the calculator, that’s what I’d keep an eye out for. Otherwise, it’s about 2 months before the tail feathers shout SURPRISE lol.
I’ll make sure to get better pictures next season when we try to recreate him. I didn’t know he was going to be different until too late. ☹️

I was just doing the same stance over the a/c vent 😆 (went back to the camera and there I am 😆 🤣)

Took the nests away today since we are officially done hatching for the year. Went out at lockdown and found this s**t. 😂
9 turkeys in this pile. Apparently if I take away the nests, they just become the nest.

Happiest I've ever seen Terror lol She stole herself a red bronze baby and a red sweetgrass baby and for being a homewrecker, she's pretty proud of herself 😆

Terror stole Havoc & Magics nest because they hatched these 2 babies. Her nest wasn't so fruitful unfortunately. We found 6 dead babies today in their coop (1 of Terrors, 5 of Avalanches) so to be on the safe side we moved Terror to a new pen, and the last surviving eggs were relocated to another smaller pen to keep them safe as well. Snake I'm pretty sure is the culprit as she has been attacking anything that dares to move. Magic and Havoc will have 3 eggs each and when they hatch, we are officially done for the season...this last month has been a bit of a nightmare.

Todays project..supposedly 2-3 hours to put together..ended up taking all day.

I've been slacking a little over here. Projects had to take priority this past week, so I haven't gotten nearly as much time with the dinos as I normally do. This coming week will probably be more of the same while we tackle projects at two different houses.

Please accept this short walk around one of the growout pens last night as my apology.

I’ll be back more regular when the 15 different projects we’re somehow doing simultaneously quit spawning side quests.

This probably doesn't look like much, but this is huge for her. Anky ate out of my hand tonight. 🥹
When we brought these two home, they wanted absolutely nothing to do with us. We've been taking it completely at their pace, sitting with them, talking to them, offering treats, and letting them be the ones to decide when they're ready. Tonight, Anky decided she was.
Axel was right there too. He got so close to taking that last little step, but couldn't quite convince himself to do it yet. Maybe tomorrow.
