We LOVE our customers! We are having trouble keeping up with the phone calls as we approach July 4th! Please see two most recent FB Posts for troubleshooting the two most common issues. 1. Yellow Flame and/or 2. Grill won't heat up past 200 degrees. We will be open today (Weds) and tomorrow (Thurs) 8a to 5p. Friday, July 3rd we will be open 8a to NOON. We will be closed July 4th and 5th. We will reopen at 10am on July 6th. A yellow flame on your Napoleon grill indicates an improper gas-to-oxygen ratio (not enough air) or a buildup of debris/grease. A healthy grill should burn mostly blue with slight yellow tips. Yellow flames waste fuel and produce unwanted soot. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
How to Fix the Yellow Flame
Follow these steps to safely troubleshoot the issue:
1. Reset the Gas Regulator
Sometimes the safety valve in your propane tank's regulator gets stuck and limits gas flow. [1, 2, 3]
• Turn off your grill k***s and the propane tank valve.
• Disconnect the gas line/regulator from the propane tank.
• Wait 30 seconds.
• Reconnect the gas line tightly, then open the propane tank valve very slowly. [1]
2. Clean the Burner Tubes
Spiderwebs, dust, or grease block the air shutter vents at the intake of your burner tubes, choking off oxygen. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
• Remove the cooking grates and sear plates (heat tents).
• Unclip or unscrew the burner tubes and remove them.
• Use a venturi brush or a straightened coat hanger to gently push through the inside of the tubes to clear blockages.
• Wipe the outside of the burner, especially the screen over the air shutter, with a soft brush. [1, 2, 3, 4]
3. Adjust the Air Shutters
If the burners are clean and the flame is still yellow, you may need to adjust the air intake. [1, 2]
• Locate the air shutter on the end of the burner tube, directly behind the control k**b.
• Loosen the small locking screw on the air shutter.
• Open the shutter slightly to allow more air in until the flame turns blue.
• Tighten the screw back down when finished. [1, 2, 3]
4. Clean the Sear Plates & Drip Pan
Excess grease vaporizing can cause lazy, yellowish flare-ups. [1]
• Remove and scrape down the sear plates.
• Empty and clean the bottom drip pan and drip tray. [1]
