We have 2 beef scheduled to go to the locker on Monday. These are 'hamburger only' animals. They have been on pasture or fed hay in winter with minimal amounts of grain during extreme cold. The hamburger will be very lean. If you're interested, Clarion Locker makes great patties perfect for grilling!! The price will be $3/pound for hamburger and $3.50/pound for patties. Mark your calendars! Practical Farmers & Grinnell College have teamed to bring Joel Salatin to Iowa on April 17!

He'll be speaking in Elkhart from 2:30-4:30 p.m., at the farm of Tom and Mary Cory. The event is free to PFI members, $10 for non-members.

Later that evening, he'll be speaking at Grinnell College at 7:30 p.m.

Meats sold at Walmart recalled for bacteria

Yet another compelling reason to know your farmer and your local abattoir! Clarion Locker does a great job processing the animals we raise!

Roast beef and ham that was distributed to Walmart delicatessens nationwide and sold in sandwiches has been recalled because it might be tainted with potentially harmful bacteria, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Tuesday.
