We will have more freshly milled Bloody Butcher and Hickory King cornmeal this Saturday at the farmers market. Both are heirlooms dating back to the 1800s and both make great cornbread. Pictured is cornbread made from the fresh milled bloody butcher cornmeal using a recipe from Grains & Grit (with freshly milled flour).

The bloody butcher and Hickory King cornmeal will be ready starting this Saturday. Both of these varieties are heirlooms from the 1800s and are grown without the use of chemical fertilizer or pesticide. The corn is left to dry on the stalk before it’s picked and eventually ground up.
