Healthy soil=nutrient dense food…that’s a fact. Grew a buckwheat cover crop this summer, only takes 45 days from seeding to flowering; flail mowed it to mulch it all up; prepared the soil carefully and planted summer squash. Beautiful. Staunton Farmers Market waynesborofarmersmarket

The road goes on forever and the party never ends…Fresh grass on a wet summer’s evening. Been the toughest spring that we can remember…April, May, June super dry with wild temp extremes caused virtually ZERO pasture growth. Hay supplies so short right now if we have a tough winter things will be dire indeed…but you take the good with the bad. We have some really pretty home raised heifers that are starting their maternal career here and we are seeing the value of breeding to some truly fantastic AI bulls. We have started getting some rain now and the pattern appears to be changing (over 5” in three days!). And we are alive and in a (pretty much) free country where we can farm how we want…so things aren’t all that bad. Hope you can see some good today too!
