Meet the newest addition to the herd. Princess had a little bull calf yesterday. She must have a thing for the date as she calved on August 26 last year too.

We are open. We’ve just been busy picking, planting and taking care of crops and critters. Our kids went back to school Monday so the work load has shifted. Picking is also taken longer as we’re fighting split tomatoes and peppers going bad in the field due to all the rain. The current corn patch is “laying down” but thankfully the younger patches picked themselves up off the ground.

The current line up:

Sugar Baby Watermelons
Cantaloupe
Cucumbers
Pickles
Sweet corn
Tomatoes
Bell Peppers
Poblano peppers
Jalapeños
Garlic
Zucchini
Onions
Bean
Carrots
Cabbage
Beets
Turnips
Swiss chard
Green onions
Parsley
Cilantro
Thyme

Flowers

Cherry tomatoes are coming very slowly this year. As we find them we will put them out. The kids found 2 pints of them last night.

Those nice big seeded watermelon we normally have are behind too. They’re coming.

We will be closed again today due to the forecasted severe weather and the just overall state of our community. If you need something we have everything stored up by the house where our cooler is.

We know many are dealing with down trees, damage to homes and vehicles, and loss of power. We are fortunate not to have lost power or had any damage to buildings.

Yesterday was spent clearing fence lines and assessing crops. Everything is a wee bit wind blown, but looks like it’s okay. More clean up is on the schedule for today.

Stay safe NWI!

I think it goes without saying we are closed today. We’ll be busy with clean up this afternoon.

Stay safe!

Finally got a patch of sweet corn that the raccoons and birds have stayed out of so we have oodles of sweet corn. There’s over 42 dozen on the carry all. We’re not done yet!

Tomatoes are finally starting to ripen now that they have recovered from the earlier storms and hail. A few are on the stand this morning. Cherries are coming.

Peppers are coming as well. We picked some of the first red sweet Italians and lots of green bell peppers. Jalapeños and poblanos are also coming in bunches.

Melons are slow as wet years reduce female flowers which reduces yield. They also had a rough go with the storms and hail. A few are down at the stand each day.

Cilantro and thyme have been added as well as parsley.

We also have flowers, beans, turnip bottoms, beets, cabbage, carrots, green onions, red and candy onions, kale, collards, Swiss chard, pickles, summer squash and zucchini.
