Korean cuisine is known for its bold flavors, fermented ingredients, and the experience of sharing a meal alongside rice and small side dishes called banchan. It’s a cuisine that balances spicy, savory, sweet, and salty flavors all in one table spread. One thing I really enjoy is how customizable the heat level can be depending on your preference. From kimchi and bulgogi to KBBQ, and comforting stews like kimchi jjigae or sundubu jjigae, there’s a lot of depth and variety to explore. Grand Rapids is fortunate to have a handful of Korean spots to choose from — some lean more traditional than others, but each brings something unique to the local food scene. 👉

Vietnamese cuisine has been a favorite in my family for years, and I truly believe it deserves more recognition. It’s a vibrant and complex cuisine known for balancing sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and spicy flavors while using fresh ingredients, fragrant herbs, and lighter cooking styles.

And while pho is amazing (especially for soup lovers like me), Vietnamese food goes far beyond soup. Dishes like banh xeo, banh mi, vermicelli bowls, and flavorful rice plates are all worth trying. 👉 🇻🇳🍜

This spot deserves your love. It’s the only Filipino restaurant on the west side of the state, and they serve authentic Filipino food. We’ve gone for breakfast and dinner and have never left disappointed.

For breakfast we tried: tapsilog, bangsilog, tocilog, and ube cassava cake.

For dinner we tried: chicken adobo, lumpia, and sinigang wings.

The menu rotates frequently, which gives me an excuse to come back and try new dishes.
