One of my favorite parts of raising chickens is walking into the grow-out pen and finding a first egg from a new layer. Today’s surprise was this adorable little fairy egg from one of our new olive eggers! 🫒🥚💚

I couldn’t be more excited to see these babies hatch and begin building a beautiful Blue Buff Brahma breeding pen here at The Nugget Nest. These birds are absolutely stunning, and I can’t wait to watch them grow.

Now the countdown begins… incubator is running, and we’re eagerly waiting for hatch day! 🥚✨

I lost an argument today… with five chickens. 🤣

Apparently five broody hens are stronger than my willpower to keep the incubators collecting dust.

These evil little chickens had a meeting without me and decided that if they laid the most beautiful eggs possible, I’d cave, start incubating again, and maybe—just maybe—let them hatch their own babies.

Maybe being a good chicken keeper means knowing when to stop collecting eggs and let a few girls follow their instincts.

They bring me so much joy with their beautiful eggs, and I love being able to share that with all of you. So I guess they finally won this battle.

It’s about to get a little wild over here at The Nugget Nest, and I need your advice. Because I’m about to let these girls sit all piled up on top of each other, fight over who’s on bottom, and raise their babies just the way nature intended. 🤣🐣

If you’ve successfully let broody hens hatch and raise chicks naturally, tell me everything I need to know!

Stay tuned… ❤️

What’s everybody’s favorite trick for breaking a broody hen? 🐲We’ve got girls puffed up in the nesting boxes acting like tiny dragons growling and guarding eggs. Tell me…. I’m not the only one dealing with broody drama right now…

Let’s talk about these Silverudd Blue girls… these little mint chocolate chip laying queens must’ve heard me talking about the Wellie pen and decided they needed their own time in the spotlight. ✨🥚 Those speckles showing up on these minty eggs are absolutely stealing the show. 💚
