NPIP/AI Certified Clean Swedish Hedemora flock sire DHF Plumbago "Plum". Plum is a blending of my own line (sired by our stunning Mörk) and Jason McQueen's unique line.

Plum is a woolly-carrying fibro split, meaning he carries a copy of the fibromelanism gene and has partial doll eyes. Additionally, he carries a copy of the woolly gene. He's made MANY non, partial, and full fibro kids this year, plus woollies and non-woollies. He passes along lovely penciling, likes to stamp his kids with checkerboard chests, and has a very traditional wide pointed comb that is 100% intact. Plum's tail is dead straight and his emerald greens are absolutely iridescent.

I hatched Plum in 2025 and bred him all season. This handsome guy is just getting warmed up! He's done his good work for me and needs a new flock! Plum is easy on the hens, has an extremely high fertility rate like his sire, and is beloved by the ladies.

Plum is available to a good home where he can continue to copy/paste his stellar traits onto his kids. He was top of his class and the hands down bestest boy that I hatched in 2025. If you already have Hedemora, this guy will add quality and diversity. If you don't have Hedemora, he has some really interesting genetics that can be mixed and matched across breeds. 🐓

What is so unique about Swedish Hedemora eggs? Let me show you! 🥚🍳🐣🐥

This is a side by side comparison of a Hedemora egg with a standard large commercially available leghorn egg. Hedemora eggs are technically medium, although as a landrace breed, that can vary wildly. The color of Hedemora eggs also varies from nearly white, to pink, to very brown, even in a single flock. What does not seem to vary is their larger than average yolks that are frequently bigger than a standard, large leghorn yolk.

While Hedemora are not considered a layer breed, they really are a solid breed for homesteading. Year after year of keeping this breed, they have proven to be voracious foragers, easy on feed, produce a staggering number of eggs, are generally people-friendly, and have feather down so dense it's more like something you'd find on a goose.

INTRODUCING... for the 2026 Swedish Hedemora breeding season: DHF Calcifer 🔥🐓🇸🇪

This boy got all the flames! Calcifer was the obvious pick from my big summer hatch with his kindness and iridescent good looks. Calcifer has modified penciling throughout, and unusual lacing on each of his tail feathers; a common feature in Hedemora in Sweden, but found far less in the US imported stock.

Landrace breeds are difficult to determine exact parentage, so I'm not entirely sure who Calcifer's parents are yet. Based on conformation alone, he is likely a 50/50 of Jason McQueen's unique line and Mörk. This guy was an exciting surprise and I can't wait to see what genes he passes on! 🧬

Once fertility tested, everyone on my egg list for 2026 will receive eggs fertilized by Calcifer. So if you're not on the list, DM me! 📨
